Places visited include: the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Wigram airport, Canterbury University, the view over Lyall Bay from Truby King's house, Dunedin war memorial and the war memorial at Waitaki Boys' High School, Government House in Wellington. Description: Photographs taken during the royal tour of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York in 1901. Scenes include the arrival of the royal visitors at various places, by ship, Royal carriages, and Royal train; ceremonies and rites welcoming them; views of triumphal arches erected for the tour, including Marble Arch (Queen Street, Auckland), the Auckland Harbour Board Arch, the Citizen's Arch (Wellesley Street), and the Government Arch (City of Wellington). Other ceremonies are associated with the presentation of war-medals; the laying of foundation stones (Victoria College for Maori Girls, Parnell, Auckland), the Wellington Town Hall, and the Queens Memorial Statue in Dunedin); and the march past and inspection of various guards, troops and veterans. One photograph shows Lord Ranfurly in Auckland, reading the proclamation extending the boundaries of the colony to include the Cook Islands (p 16). Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: Photographs probably taken by George William Barltrop, between 1900 and 1905. The images follow on from McIntosh album 15, (these are pages 815-835) starting at Opunake (a church building). Pihama (a memorial to members of the crew of the barque Lizzie Bell which was wrecked off Oeo, 24th July 1901), a view of the Oeo Hotel (F. Morgan, proprietor), and a view of the mast of the Lizzie Bell standing as a memorial at Pihama. These are followed by a panorama of Parihaka (p. 822-823), and a portrait of a man named Ruru, at Parihaka. The rest of the album has scenes in the Auckland area, including a view of Queen Street in which the chemist shop of Charles J Ratgen is clearly visible. A series of images show various Maori artifacts on display at the Auckland Museum. Scenery in Auckland includes the Auckland Domain, Epsom, Tamaki, Auckland Harbour, Rangitoto, St Heliers, Mount Hobson and Mount Eden. Two church buildings are seen, one at Opunake, and the remains of a stone church at Tamaki. A group of photographs show horse-drawn carriages decorated with flowers for a floral fete (p 835-838). They include one of two Maori women washing clothes at Rotorua, another of the Royal visit in 1927 and a family group of seven men and three women possibly taken in Belfast. A number of the postcards have been used. Also included are five original photographs which have been captioned with the family connections: a soldier in uniform, possibly named Ralph Ferguson; Uncle Henry Babe's wedding photograph; cousin Violet Bradford in America; Albert and Elizabeth (Eliza) Babe (brother and sister) and four others; Thomas and Fanny Babe (grandpa and grandma) with Eliza, Harold, Albert, Olivia, Queenie and Gladys. Description: Birds eye view of central Auckland - "This view is compiled and drawn as from a point one thousand feet above and one hundred feet to the rear of the Hospital during the year 1885 and part of 1886 by George Treacy Stevens, Auckland, N. Z.". All the streets are named and every building is shown, as well as the wharves and part of the harbour. Grafton Road, the hospital and part of Auckland Domain dominate the foreground, and the view extends beyond St Mary's Bay (West Haven boat harbour) in the north-west, a block beyond Union Street in the west, to the beginning of Karangahape Road in the south-west and to Judges Bay and part of Hobson Bay in the east. Description: Left side of a two-part panorama with A-292-040. View from modern Karangahape Road area looking down the valley that now has Queen Street running down it, with houses and fields, the harbour beyond and Rangitoto in the background to the right. In the distance on the right, the prominent building on the skyline of the hills is Fort Britomart; at the bottom of the valley the nearest large building is the Queen Street Gaol; on the far left at the top of the slope is the St Patrick's Roman Catholic Cathedral under construction. The right-most ship is the Colonial Brig (Victoria). The right side of the panorama (A-292-040) includes St Paul's Church, Britomart Barracks and Government House and is titled Auckland 1846. Other Titles - Auckland 1846 An ink version of the full panorama with title Auckland from the head of the town valley, is held in the Manuscripts and Archives Collection, with annotations, and with several noted Maori in the foreground, including Tamihana te Rauparaha and Te Kawau.
