Description: The first of three horizontal frames shows a quiet scene with mountains and forest and includes text that reads 'Deep in the woods a creature stirs and sniffs the wind...' The second frame shows a close up of the trunks of forest trees with a sinister figure disappearing into the gloom; it includes text that reads 'Five hundred elderly are trapped in a hall, it can't wait...' The third frame shows Winston Peters making a speech; text reads 'With some difficulty, they give it a rousing standing ovation... and he says 'I'm back, and I'm still angry...' Winston Peters served as Minister of Maori Affairs in the Bolger National Party Government before being sacked in 1991 and losing party endorsement for his Tauranga seat. He returned to Parliament in 1993 as an independent, after defeating Gail McIntosh National MP for Lyttelton and then formed his own party, New Zealand First in July, shortly before the 1993 election when he kept his Tauranga seat as an independent, to be greeted by his elderly devotees, after he was sacked by the National Party and after he won the bye-election but before the launch of NZ First in July. Description: Shows two nests on the branch of a tree: the Auckland Hospital Board nest and the Whare Paia nest. A caricature of Titewhai Harawira depicted as a bird is shown in the Whare Paia nest, and an unknown man from the Auckland Hospital Board is represented in the nest on the left. A bird representing Ken Mason flies overhead, and has defecated into the faces of the inhabitants of both nests. A kiwi at lower right comments: "One in the eye for arrogance!" Extended Title - New Zealand truth The Mason Report concerned \"procedures used in certain psychiatric hospitals in relation to admission, discharge or release on leave of certain classes of patients\". The report was critical of Whare Paia, scheme was a service for Maori mental health patients, wherein it was hoped to bring together Maori and pakeha treatments and methods. The report criticised the scheme for lack of direction, purpose and structure. The title\" One flew over the cuckoo's nest\" is a reference to the American motion picture of the same name (1975, from a 1962 novel by Ken Kesey) set in a mental institution. Description: A headmaster, grand in school tie and scholarly gown, stands on the stage beside a table laden with prize books and cups. Behind the table sit the staff looking deadpan and in front of the stage are the students who accept his statement about Mr Marshall's plan for mediocrity with a mixture of cheerfulness and disbelief. Unrestrained extraction of hot water by bores caused a startling decline in the field's thermal activity between the 1970s and late 1980s, affecting the performance of famous geysers such as Pohutu.But the situation improved after restrictions on use were introduced in 1986 and a ban imposed on drilling new bores within a 1.5km radius of the tourist drawcard Whakarewarewa. George Chapman was president of the National Party in 1982, the cartoon refers to Muldoon's policies and the reactions they got. Chapman seems to be taking some stick for supporting Muldoon's views.
