Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand between 1958 and 1959, and his return voyage to England aboard the Corinthic. This sheet of slides has two sections. The first 6 images relate to his voyage home with views of Fort Nassau and Willemstad in Curacao, and distant views of the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean. The second section shows purchased slides of New Zealand. These include some from a set of Maori images and New Zealand plants produced by "Kiwi Colour Slides" and one of pohutukawa flowers taken by N. Hatwell. Subjects listed above. Slides on this sheet are numbered 699-722 with gaps for nos. 705, 707-709 which were removed for lectures on New Zealand when he returned home to England. Arrangement: Mr Williams transferred slides (nos. 705, 707-709), purchased slides showing a Maori poi dance, plaiting flax, Maori cloaks and a Maori carver for his representative collection on New Zealand used in a lecture series when he returned to England. Description: A programme for a Maori concert performance featuring powhiri, love ditties, poi dances, action songs, haka, Maori games, poetry (patere), waiata, combination poi, toutou (war dance). There is a photographic portrait of Guide Rangi in the centre of the programme side. Soloists and named performers are: Wiremu Keepa, Ani Patiti, Kere Ratema, Hep Waretini. The non-programme side advertises Larsen's bus tours of the North Island, with an illustration of a bus and of a hostess with a microphone. There is also an illustration of a carved wooden figure, a woman performing with poi, and a cloaked man performing with a taiaha. Quantity: 1 colour photo-mechanical print(s) on folded pamphlet.. Description: Transparency slides of New Zealand selected by Mr Williams as a representative collection to be used in a series of lectures on his return to England. This group includes both slides Mr Williams took himself, and slides he purchased. This sheet shows aspects of the thermal areas at Whakarewarewa and Waimangu, and scenes of Maori life. These include a group using a hot pool for cooking, a group of poi dancers, women weaving flax, a Maori carver at work with a group of tourists watching, a Maori warrior at the gate of a pa, and a group of women and children wearing a variety of Maori cloaks. The next set are from the Tarawera area, and include views of the Frying Pan Lake, Gibraltar Rock; three images copied from publications, one showing the White Terraces, and two showing the effects of the Tarawera eruption in 1886; a launch for hire on Lake Tarawera; and the entrance to the buried village at Te Wairoa. The last two views show the beach near Gisborne looking south, and looking down over Gisborne township from a hill. The slides are not in his original numerical sequence, and are selected by subject relating to particular talks. Arrangement: These slides were selected by Mr Williams from his original sequence to create a representative collection of New Zealand images which he used in illustrated lectures on his return to England.
