Description: Topographic map of Kapiti Island with some described features and named vegetation. Includes the site of an anchorage adjacent to Motungarara Island and Kapiti Island. Ink blotches obliterate parts of the map Kapiti Island includes numerous Maori placenames and named streams. Pa sites and former Maori settlements are marked, as are whaling stations and a cavern, formerly a burial ground. Sites of mutton birds are marked as are water supplies, walking tracks, the site of an old homestead and old cultivations. Tokumapuna Island, 1.2.21 [acres] includes the site of the main whaling station and named rocks which are covered at high water are named. Description: Drawn on a base cadastral map of the Lower Hutt industrial area, bounded by the Waiwhetu Stream and the Hutt River, the annotations show sections sold (in red) and sections open for selection (in green). The sections, numbered with acreages, are bounded by Bell, Gracefield, Park and Seaview roads, and the railway runs through the area. Sections are marked as sold to: Wm Cable & Co., Hume Pipe Coy., Vacuum Oil Coy., Texas Oil Co., Schweppes, RA Armstrong, Millars West Aust. Hardwoods Ltd., WA Cairns, Wellington Concrete Pipe Co., CH Morley. Pencil annotations of further sales include the names Ford Coy., Winstones, New Zealand government, Cable & Co. Several sections are stamped 'sold' and pencilled notes are scattered over the map. The annotations also show watermains and sewers, including the septic tanks and pumping station on the boundary of the Waiwhetu Pa and cemetery. Description: Copy of topographic manuscript map of Kapiti Island, with cadastral and Māori historical information. Shows several pā sites, including Wharekahu Bay Pa, Taepiro Stream Pa, 'Rangitira Point Pa'. Shows land subdivisions, such as Maraetakaroro Kapiti No. 2, subdn 2B and Waiorua Kapiti no. 5, subdn 1B. Identifies Māori place names, the residence of Te Rauparaha and 'Rangihaieta' (Te Rangihaeata), the residence of Mr A S Wilkinson, whaling stations on surrounding islands. Beside the map are notes on early HMS ship visits to the island. Total area for the island is given as over 4855 acres. Annotation on map before copying: Sale plan W 35. It was formerly assumed that this map is a photocopy from the manuscript reproduced in 'The stirring times of Te Rauparaha (Chief of the Ngatitoa) / by W.T.L. Travers. Description: Drawn on a base map of Owahanga Station, the annotations depict pā sites, (including terraced pā), middens (deposits of shells or animal bones indicating human settlement) and pits along the Mataikona River. Several comments are written on the map such as the bulldozing of sites, pit size, locality of farm buildings. Drawn by P.J.P. Base map: 'Owahanga Station' (ms map?, 1964). Surveyed by R G Lockie. This map names paddocks, buildings, and describes land use. Gives topographical information. Includes enlargement of the layout of the station's farm buildings such as wool shed, cook house, and shearing quarters. Map consists of two sheets glued together. Description: Topographic map of the southern half of the North Island, with especial emphasis on the Wairarapa valley, showing natural features and stands of timber; the Maori names for some of these features are given, together with names and locations of some pa . Includes the surveyors' route which began on 1st. June, ca. 1848, from a site along the Manawatu River to the Ruamahanga River, Lake Wairarapa, ending at the Hutt River on 20 June. Description: View north across the harbour from Thorndon, just to the left of Pipitea Pa, with the palisades of the pa on the right, a ravine and three Maori to the left of the ravine. Kaiwharawhara with the hotel is visible on the extreme left, with the Western hills leading to the Tararuas, and the Hutt Valley in the distance. The view may possibly be further along Thorndon Beach from the Pa. There was a ravine where the motorway now runs, crossed by the Hobson Street Bridge in later years, and this may be the area shown, in central Thorndon. Quantity: 1 drawing(s). Description: Copy of a topographic map of the Wellington region from Port Nicholson and Paliser Bay following the Ruamahanga River to the Manawatu River to the coast at Foxton. The Rimutaka and Tararua Ranges are named as are rivers, bays, heads, some settlements, tracks and roads. Some sections are marked and pa sites. Wakefield, Tiffin and Kettle have made descriptive notes about the terrain, views and navigable rivers on the map as well as at the bottom of it. Note on catalogue card states: Photocopy of col.
