Description: Reclamation at Mussel Bay, between Port Chalmers and Sawyers Bay, 17 September 1873. Photographed by an unidentified photographer. The mayor Hugh McDermid, wheels the first barrow to begin reclamation at Mussel Bay for the proposed railway workshops. However Dunedin opposition won the workshops for Hillside, and the site became the 'old' recreation ground.
