Description: Chiefly photographs of Mounts Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro and the areas surrounding them. Also three images of Mount Taranaki and one that is possibly the Southern Alps. All taken about 1940s-1950s. Most photographs are likely to have been taken by Neville Mosen. Some may have been collected by him. Includes some taken during eruptions at Mount Ngauruhoe between 1949 and 1954. Also includes one of tussock near the Desert Road; one of Rangataua Lakes; a view including Ohakune Cemetery; a view from Waipuna Ridge; a group on lava flow at Mount Ngauruhoe; Boy Scouts with steam from Mount (Ngauruhoe?) behind them; Red Crater on Mount Tongariro; Blue and Green Lakes (Lake Rotokakahi and Lake Tikitapu) on Mount Tongariro; a lake on Mount Ruapehu, possibly the crater lake. Description: Night view of Mount Ngauruhoe erupting, taken by G B Scott, about 500 yards from the summit, on the 22nd of September, 1954. Other - Published in the Evening Post on 4 October 1954 Caption - Evening Post caption reads: "Spectacular night picture of Ngauruhoe in action taken recently by Mr G Scott, of Auckland. Mr Scott was camped on a saddle about 500 yards from the summit when the fireworks, heralded by a tremendous detonation, began. He took this two-second exposure as hundreds of re-hot rocks went shooting from the crater and the fiery lava began to slide down the mountainside."
