Description: "Ua" 177, steam locomotive (4-6-0 type), known as the "Kingston Flyer", hauling a goods train, at Kingston. Photographed by Albert Percy Godber. This image is a film negative taken from the print in Godber Album Vol 109, p 248 (PA1-q-102), with the inscription "Kingston". "Ua" 177 steam locomotive was built by Sharp Stewart (maker's no. 4505/99), went into service in January 1900, and was written off in March 1937. Description: Album of photographs taken by unidentified photographers, taken in central North Island, and Otago and Southland regions, circa 1900s and 1910s. Some of the images are related to railways, including North Island scenes of the first passenger trip on 14th February 1909, during which the train stopped on the Raurimu Spiral because of a lack of engine power to haul it; the railway station at Longburn; a locomotive owned by the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company; various engines including one image showing a J Class locomotive and an A Class locomotive with the caption "Note the difference in 20 years". South Island trains are shown in the Catlins District, including the construction of the Catlins River Railway, the Houipapa Quarry on the Catlins River Extension, loading wagons in the Balclutha ballast pit, the viaduct across the Catlins River at Houipapa, the Clutha Railway Bridge, and the Houipapa terminus on the Catlins River Railway. The North Island scenic views include the areas around Lake Rotorua, the Government Sanatorium at Rotorua, Sophia's Whare, a group of Maori boys diving for pennies, Whakarewarewa, Okere and Ohakune. Scenic views in the South Island are mostly around Dunedin (including Telford's country house in the Balclutha District), Clutha River, Balclutha, and the Catlins, including flax swamps and flax mills in the Catlins District. Description: Album containing 1928 souvenir booklet celebrating New Zealand's first Commerce Train, which travelled through Auckland Province between 26th October 1928 and 4th November 1928. Souvenir number of the Commerce Train News, published by New Zealand Railways. Bound in with the book are photographs taken by an unidentified passenger on the trip. There are photographs in the booklet, which include several portraits of men on the trip, photographs of farmland, dairy factories, cement works, Arapuni Hydroelectric works showing the dam and the spillway, kauri forests, trains and cars, and group photographs of the personnel. Full lists of personnel are included in the book. Other - Photographs possibly taken by Robert Angus, manager of Cook & Son, Shortland St., Auckland, who was a member of the tour. Description: Auckland Station yard (lot 3006) with adjacent land proposed to be added. Station yard is bounded by Quay St, Customs St East and Beach Road, Kings Drive and the harbour. It is crossed on the left by Breakwater Road, which runs from the Railway Wharf to the intersection of Customs St East, Fort St and Beach Road. The area of land proposed to be added to the Station yard is immediately to the right of the Railway Wharf. An area extending from the breakwater into the harbour and including a slip and shed is marked as proposed to be given up by Railways. An area of Auckland Harbour Board land at the intersection of Breakwater and Beach Roads is also highlighted; it includes a building marked John Burns and Co. lessee. Also highlighted is an area of reclaimed Auckland Harbour Board land bounded by the Railway yard and Kings Drive, with a building marked Winstone Limited, lessee. Original photograph in the New Zealand Railways collection; this image is a glass copy negative made from an original print by Albert Percy Godber. This image is reproduced in "Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives" by A N Palmer and W W Stewart (1965, p 59), with the inscription "`Wa' 165, working on the Gisborne Section. New Zealand Railways".
