Description: A weeping Thomas Mackenzie, New Zealand politician, is pushed away from a stool by a policeman wearing a label 'Boundaries Commission'. Other stools are empty, labelled 'High Commissionership - or ?', 'Tairei lost 1911', 'Waikouaiti lost 1908', 'Waihemo lost 1902'. In the background Prime Minister Joe Ward and another politician are playing games with a 'seat'. Published in 'Grant, Ian F. Public Lives - New Zealand's Premiers and Prime Ministers 1856-2003 (Book title)' 2003. Extended Title - The Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister for Commerce and Agriculture in the Ward Government, has suffered the loss of his seat after three consecutive sittings of the Electoral Boundaries Commission. After being driven to Waikouaiti by the abolition of the Waihemo seat, he had to stand for Taieri at the last election, though his constituency being again done away with. This year's census figures necessitated the transference of one seat from the South to the North Island, and again Mr. Mackenzie was the victim. He announces his intention of contesting another seat, not yet named, but the opinion is generally held that he will be sent to London to fill the High Commissionership shortly to be vacated by Sir William Hall-Jones. These cartoons mainly address Holland's link to the British conservatives (which McNamara had a very negative view of), and cuts he made to wages, pensions and allowances when he came into power. Description: Postcard soliciting a vote for candidate Joseph A Tole in the General Election of 1884 (held on a Tuesday). Tole promises to serve his constituents faithfully and hopes that he can rely on their vote "in this political crisis". This card is addressed in handwriting on the verso, to Charles Johns esqr, upholsterer, Karangahape Road, Newton. The one penny stamp is preprinted on to the card. The postmark date is 14 July 1884. Description: A base map entitled Provisional map of the Hutt County has annotations depicting the authorised boundaries of the Hutt Electoral District, as authorised by the Representation Commission in 1909 which is referred to in a hand-written note. Areas included within the boundary are Pencarrow, Belmont, Rimutaka, Akatarawa and Eretonga [i.e. Heretaunga]. The area is named Hutt and includes the population total of 12753. Adjacent areas are named as Wellington suburbs, Otaki and Wairarapa, but no boundaries of these areas are included. Base map: Provisional map of the Hutt County. (Wellington, New Zealand Lands and Survey Department, [s.d.].) Base map shows numbered land blocks with acreages, timber and water reserves, forest reserves, a pastoral licence block, the Wellington and Railway Company blocks, named rivers and peaks, topographical detail. Base map includes the logo of the New Zealand Lands and Survey and the name of J. W.
