Description: Cadastral and topographical map of the area adjacent to Lowry Bay. Includes numbered sections with acreages, some including sites of buildings, a homestead, tennis court, circular garden, line of sewer drain. Boundaries are marked, especially building line distances from roads. Includes tracks and drives, roads are named, and the Wellington to Eastbourne Road is decribed as a bitumen road. The Francis Bell Reserve with the approximate area of 120 acres, also one section to be retained by trustees, are marked. The section of C. W. D Bell includes a note stating that it is not for sale. Description: Shows path into hills with apparently land-locked water in the background. From: Brees, S C. Pictorial illustrations of New Zealand, no 6 Plate 3, published London 1847 Brees in his text to "Pictorial Illustrations" notes: "This is a district adjoining Port Nicholson consisting principally of swamp and fern ... There are two mountain streams connected with this district, the Wai-nui-o-mate and the Oronga-ronga ... A road will be carried over this way to the Waira-rapa,some day as a cross line to Palliser Bay". This tect suggests that the 1840s definition of the extent of Lowry Bay was much larger than the present and included the Wainuiomata and Orongorongo Valleys. The image does not resemble the topography of the present Lowry Bay area, but the expanse of water is too great for the area shown to be Wainuiomata or Orongorongo Quantity: 1 colour art print(s). The Esplanade, Dillon and Cheviot Streets are marked as is a proposed road. An area of Native Reserve is marked along Lowry Bay beach. A scenic reserve is marked. Names include H. D. Bell and A. Pearce. A note refers to Field Book 3403, page 68 and includes the name of G. P.
