Description: Two New Plymouth men discuss a notice that reads 'United Nations may come to New Plymouth'. One of them says 'Reckon they're after a cut off the shield gates'. Context: Taranaki held the Ranfurly Shield in 1957-1959 and 1963-1965. The comment about the United Nations cannot be explained except that the General Assembly of the United Nations designated 1965 as International Co-operation Year. 1965 marked the 20th anniversary of the organisation, the Charter of the United Nations having been signed in June 1945.
