The Sub-Antarctic Island views are all of native flora and fauna of the different islands, listed on the images as mollymawks, albatrosses, sea lions, crested penguins and erect-crested penguins On page 32 there is a view of the SS Knight Templar leaving Lyttelton on February 17, 1900, taking about 260 soldiers and 300 horses of the 3rd Contingent "the New Zealand Roughriders" to Durban, en route to fight in the South African War. Description: British infantry and cavalry on the march on a road cleared through dense bush The image is a reworking of the Illustrated London News image published in 1863. It may have been prepared as a book illustration. It appears to be a proof copy and is on a blank sheet with no surrounding text and is markedly smaller than the Illustrated London News version, which is 160 x 235 mm. Another copy of the I. L. N. version is held in E-372-f-003-2. The image was formerly catalogued by the Library as Troops passing through wooden country along the Great South Road; also as Shepherd Bush. The derivation from the Illustrated London News was not recognised. Other Titles - Former titles - Troops passing through wooded country along the Great South Road. Description: Portraits of elderly Maori women with facial tattos (moko kauwae) most taken by Marti Friedlander for Michael King's book `Moko,' first published in 1972. All of the subjects lived in the North Island of New Zealand. Most of them are identified. Photographs relating to Te Puea Herangi. These include - Portraits of Te Puea at different times during her life. Photographs relating to her work, such as the group of orphaned children she fostered after the flu epidemic of 1918. The construction of the ceremonial waka (canoe) Ngatokimatawhaorua. Building works at Turangawaiwai Marae, in particular the meeting house Mahinarangi (1929), and the Maori monarch's official residence, Turongo House including the opening of this in 1938. Te Puea's tangi, and her coffin being carried up Taupiri Mountain. Maori monarch's include - King Mahuta Tawhiao (1855?-1912). King Koroki (1909-1966). Queen Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu (1931-2006). Maori soldiers from the period of the First World War. The Parliament House (Turangawaiwai House) at Ngaruawahia (built 1912-1919).
