Description: A group of war canoes racing, some with sails. In the centre of the group is the missionary schooner, Karere, flying a red and blue ensign. A headland is in the background. Reprinted in the Quarterly papers of the Church Missionary Society in 1849. The image was also used to illustrate Rev. William Yate's 'An account of New Zealand' (London, 1835) opp. p. 184, with title The mission boat accompanying a New Zealand war expedition. Engraved by S. Williams.
