Description: Drawn on a base cadastral map of the Lower Hutt industrial area, bounded by the Waiwhetu Stream and the Hutt River, the annotations show sections sold (in red) and sections open for selection (in green). The sections, numbered with acreages, are bounded by Bell, Gracefield, Park and Seaview roads, and the railway runs through the area. Sections are marked as sold to: Wm Cable & Co., Hume Pipe Coy., Vacuum Oil Coy., Texas Oil Co., Schweppes, RA Armstrong, Millars West Aust. Hardwoods Ltd., WA Cairns, Wellington Concrete Pipe Co., CH Morley. Pencil annotations of further sales include the names Ford Coy., Winstones, New Zealand government, Cable & Co. Several sections are stamped 'sold' and pencilled notes are scattered over the map. The annotations also show watermains and sewers, including the septic tanks and pumping station on the boundary of the Waiwhetu Pa and cemetery. Description: Comprises holograph diary kept by P Davy on the `Ruahine' and during his tour of New Zealand. After disembarking at Wellington where he visited relatives he toured to other parts of New Zealand. He describes a gathering of Maori following the settlement of fishing rights on Lake Wairarapa, a visit to a freezing works at Belfast, gold mining on the West Coast and Rotorua where he visited a pa, saw geysers and bathed in the hot pools. His journal ends on the return journey to England when staying at Sydney. Also includes transcript of part of the diary (16 Nov 1895-3 Jan 1896). Source of title - Supplied Relationship complexity - Full transcript of diary at MS-Papers-4391 Davy and his Aunt Harriet boarded the `Ruahine' at Plymouth 16 Nov 1895 and disembarked 12 Jan 1896 at Wellington where they stayed with relatives. After travelling around New Zealand they left Auckland for Sydney, 18 Mar. The writer of the diary is presumed to be P Davy, a passenger on the `Ruahine'; he visited members of the Davy family while in Wellington. He was probably one of the Devonshire Davys, a nephew of George Boutflower Davy, an official of the Land Registration Court of NZ, and the son of Edward Davy (1806-1885), an experimental chemist who emigrated to Australia. Shows several pā sites, including Wharekahu Bay Pa, Taepiro Stream Pa, 'Rangitira Point Pa'. Shows land subdivisions, such as Maraetakaroro Kapiti No. 2, subdn 2B and Waiorua Kapiti no. 5, subdn 1B. Identifies Māori place names, the residence of Te Rauparaha and 'Rangihaieta' (Te Rangihaeata), the residence of Mr A S Wilkinson, whaling stations on surrounding islands. Description: A base map, Plan of Section 23 Ngarara, Kaitawa S.D. Block III, near Waikanae, has been used to name fields belonging to the Elder family farm. Boundaries of the fields are marked on the base map with acreages and a few include the name H. Elder. The site of the Elder family home is marked. The property has the Waikanae River, Wellington and Manawatu Railway, and the Hutt-Waikanae Road as boundaries. A sum total of acreages was handwritten on the base map, Other names of landowners included are C.C.H., W.H. Field, Beachams. Title handwritten on reverse of map Waimahoe is the name of N.L. Description: Cadastral map of two lots with acreages and boundary measurements on Seatoun Heights Road. Includes a twenty foot wide right of way to a back section and a twenty foot wide reserve from the Wellington City Council reservoir. The annotation to this base map is the addition of colourwash to highlight the sections. The second map is a locality plan of the area from Scots College and Monorgan Road to Miramar South School and Park Road. Includes the Pass of Branda, Marine Parade and Awa Street. A library is marked on Broadway, includes sites of a quarry, reservoir, a convent and Roman Catholic School, an Anglican Church and nearby residence, a Presbyterian Church, tennis courts and bowling green, a school, Beacon Hill Signal Station Reserve, Military Reserve, Seatoun Park, Seatoun Wharf, Telegraph Reserve, Worser Bay. Streets are named and the route of the tramway is marked. The annotation to this map is the position of the land for sale on Seatoun Heights Road. Map accompanied by a copy of a typewritten letter dated 11th January 1937, from H. Gyles Turner of the Wellington Harbour Board, Chief Engineer's office to Gordon Harcourt, 153-155 Featherston Street, Wellington. The content of the letter refers to the accompanying plans and the varying prices for the sections. Reference is made to the location on the Seatoun side of the hill, includes details of shelter from the winds, and refers to the exceptional view. The address of Wellington Harbour Board is Box 938, C.P.O., Wellington. Cable address - Harbord Wellington.
