Description: Cadastral map, with topographical information, of the Taupo District, showing numbered Maori land blocks. Includes the area from Te Poua Kani, eastwards to Te Kowhatu Whakairo, southwards to the Mohaka River and Mangatainoko, and westwards to Te Kohatu. Land blocks sited include Kaimanawa, Tapapa, Te Matai, Wharetoto, Waikare Mohaka, Runanga, Pohokura, Tauhara, Tauranga, Pukahunui, Kaingaroa, Paeroa, Whakamaru, Maraetai and Okahukura. Description: A copy of a base map of Tongariro timber areas includes state forests and covers the area from the Whakapapa, Wanganui and Taringamutu Rivers to Lake Taupo, Tokaanu and the Waikato River, and the road from National Park to Taupo. A key indicates forestry areas as Crown, Native, Crown & Native, Cut-over, Committed and State Forest, all of which are colour coded. The majority of these forestry blocks are named on the map. Pencilled annotations refer to possible access of tracks through forestry blocks. The west shore of Lake Taupo has detailed information about Maori occupation naming pa and whare sites, geographical features, settlements, references to Waka, also some names of people. All names are in the Maori language with some English translations. The base map includes rivers and streams, main highways and private roads. The Pokaka Timber Company and Ketetahi Smg. Co. are named. Includes the names of Hopkins, Speirs & Winger, C.P. & P.D. Smith, Wier & Kenny, McKee Bros., K.R. Kapoor. A note states that this plan was compiled for reference inspection by S.A.C. The annotation to this map shows the numbered sections outlined as far as the lake's edge. One section is marked for community use (parking). Roads included are Motutaiko Street and Pihanga Road which is noted as formed, metalled and being legalised. Description: A manuscript plan of Rural lands for immediate sale in the Punui Survey District - Korakonui Improved farm settlement, West Taupo County, annotated with the names of purchasers upon payment. Drawn by Lands and Survey Auckland for the Auckland Crown Lands Commissioner. Records improved farm settlements at Korakonui, has the survey district name of Mangaorango written adjacent to the farm blocks, which have been divided into four blocks by a hand drawn green line, numbered III, IV, XV, XVI. Section numbers, some lot numbers, acreages - some revised, dates of ownership and names of current and previous owners are handwritten within each block. The boundaries of each section are prominently marked, while some sections are coloured in green and brown. No reference key is provided. Two areas shaded in pink are named Tokanui Mental Asylum and Reformatory Farm. Formed roads, proposed roads and waggon tracks are drawn. The Mangaorongo settlement is bordered by the Mangatuku Stream, Korakonui block and Rangitoto A Nos. 3B, 52, 54, 1, 58B, all numbers followed by N.L. Two areas of Crown Land are marked. A school site, creamer, whare and old cultivations are marked and an area of self-sown grass. The inset map is a locality plan of Puniu and Mangaorongo which is divided into grid-like sections numbered I to XVI. The Mangaorongo sections are coloured pink. The main trunk railway, Kawa and Te Puhi railway stations, Puniu River, Mangatutu Stream, the settlements of Te Awamutu and Kihikihi, Tokanui Mental Asylum, the Reformatory Farm, Korakonui, Rangitoto 'A', Ouruwheru and Kakepuku areas are named.. Description: Plots the Hauhau campaign and Te Kooti campaign from the New Zealand Wars. Shows central North Island and note reads "Land enclosed by yellow is that of the Maori King, boarded by the 'aukati' no European may cross on pain of death". Military engagements and massacres are identified across the map. Massacres are identified at Matawhero, Ohiwa Harbour, Whitecliffs and Waihi. Engagements are identified at Mohaka, Ngaatape, Puketapu, Turanga and Ahikerera Pa on the East Coast and Whakatane districts, and Rauparoa Pa, Otatau, Otoia, Wairou, Moturoa, Ruapuru and Te Ngutu o te Mana (identified as Tito Kowaru's own place). Shows "Nukumaru Pah taken 2 Feb 69". Orange lines represent Colonel Whitmore campaigns eg Campaign of Ngatapa Dec/Jan 1869 (Poverty Bay area), or Oct/Nov 1868 Whanganui area, April/ May 1869 Bay of Plenty area. Small yellow lines represent the New Zealand war battle campaigns by the ers and the New Zealand government against the Maori, especially those led by Colonel Whitmore eg Col. Description: A sale plan of Rural lands for sale by ballot in the Wharepapa and Ranginui Survey districts annotated with the names of successful purchasers, 1912. Drawn by Lands and Survey Auckland for the Auckland Crown Lands Commissioner. Base maps of rural lands open for sale or selection in terms of the Land Act, 1908, in the Wharepapa and Ranginui Survey Districts. The boundaries of farm blocks in these districts are prominently outlined, some coloured and the majority include acreages, owners' names and applicable dates handwritten in each section. Native and forest reserves, creamery and school sites, a township, possibly known as Waipari, and tracks are marked. The Mangarata, Wairakei, Punui and Te Hue Streams and the Aotearoa, Wairakei, Wharepunanga and Mangawheo Roads are named, as is the Taupo Track. Directions are given to several settlements including Wharepuhanga, Otorohanga, Tautori and Taumarunui. Some sections include Gazetteer numbers. Includes trig points and relief is shown. Three cuttings relating to the Wharepapa Survey District, Otorohanga County and one cutting related to discharged soldiers in Wharepapa Survey District, West Taupo County are all mounted adjacent to the map. Each cutting has handwritten information including the poster number, dates and 3rd. class which refers to the quality of the land. The base map is of farm sections in the Wharepapa and Ranginui survey districts, Auckland Land District No. 1114. A schedule of these districts include the valuations, acreages and rent. Instructions to applicants and a caution follow with the printed name of H.M. Skeet, Commissioner of Crown Lands. Includes an abstract of conditions of purchase. A statement on the left side of the map begins with '22,153 acres'. Includes the application date of 25 March 1912 at the District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland. Below them are six caricatures of the colourful Tuhoe protester, Tame Iti, wearing a selection of hats. The cartoonist's comment is 'ID Parade'. Refers to the Independent Police Conduct Authority finding on 22 May 2013 that actions by the New Zealand Police during the Ruatoki raids were unlawful, although the operation overall was reasonable and justified. Tame Iti, one of the Tuhoe protagonists in the affair who had been released recently from prison, was noted for his tendency to wear a variety of hats.
