The property reverted to his father Angus McMillan who made it over to his younger sons Angus John and William. In 2008 the farm was owned by John's son Ian McMillan and wife Lois (nee Wilcox), the farming being undertaken by Ian's cousins Ross McMillan and son Barrie. Description: A base map of Block V, Westmere S.D. has been used to detail the town section 103 to be developed by John T. Williams. The plan for the section includes a cottage, stable and two sheds. The orchard, garden, passage and yard are named, include measurements in feet and inches, and notes about a 'crooked delanidated picket fence' and 'buried in dense growth of trees and shrubs'. The adjacent section No. 102, includes the names W.J. Vowles and J.A.S. McDonald, owner and occupier, while section No. 104 has the names Mrs. M.V. Soulby, owner, and Williams, occupier. The section to the rear has the name Mrs. Ellen Cullinane, owner and occupier. A note written on bottom right of map gives information about survey posts, pegs and no excess claimed for this section. Description: The papers consist of: Application forms submitted by Neroli McRae (Eilean Donan Farm Trust), 40 Matheson Road, Mokoreta; and G A & L M McRae (218 Matheson Road, Mokoreta); diary of G F McRae (1908); history of McRae family and property at Mokoreta; photographs of farms and McRae brothers flax mill at Mokoreta. The original family members to acquire the land were the McRae brothers, Duncan, Murdoch and George who leased 2750 acre `Brookdale' from the Otago High Schools Boards. For the first few years they farmed in partnership but after Duncan and wife Ellen bought a farm at Benmore, Murdoch and George then split the property. George farmed 1550 acres. In later years his sons Colin and Ian joined the farming partnership. In 2000 his son Collin formed Brookdale Dairying with his son Neil and daughter-in-law Neroli. Neil died suddenly in 2004 and Neroli and children continue to farm under the Eilean Donan Farm Trust In 2008 the properties were awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family. He and his brother James went to the Owaka distict and bought 56 hectares of land in 1907 where John farmed sheep, a few cows, felled timber and killed rabbits to earn a living. His son William took ownership of the property from his mother Annie when his father was accidentally killed in 1941. In 2008 the property which had increased to over 400 acres was owned by John's grandson John Douglas Mitchell and great-grandsons and under the name Mitchell Farming Company Ltd.
