Description: Map of sections around Waiari Pa on the Mangapiko river, near Pirongia. Shows the Waiari Pa, the military redoubt (fort) across the river (40th regiment), another redoubt with annotation 'afterwards camp', the Mangapiko river and Tauwhare Pa. Roads and numbered land blocks are mapped around the Waiari Pa and the river, numbered from 102-125 and 283-300 (not inclusive). The name 'Ford' is associated with a point on the river. One road leads to Te Rore, one to Te Piringia. A diagram labelled 'graves' is identified. Some red annotations on the map point to the river, to Ford's name, to section 124 named '?Parekuoa' (or 'Pare Kuoa). An illustrated piece of printed paper 4.5 x 4.5 cm has been subsequently attached to the map which reads 'View from Paterangi looking towards Mangapiko River and Mt. Kakepuku.' (Unknown source). Description: Military map of Bay of Islands, showing route taken by the British troops to reach Kawiti and his supporters. Route begins at Hokianga Harbour from the Waima River, along native path, through the Kaikohe pa site and mission station, along cart road through Waimate, past Kawiti's first pa site, along Cowa Cowa [Kawa Kawa] River, to the position of camp at Wai-o-meo 24 December 1845. Directly above is Kawiti's second pa north of the Waituto Hill. Other Titles - Sketchmap Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s).
