Description: Album of photographs, some prints, some contacts from 35mm film, taken by Professor John Salmon in Wellington. Most of the images describe his use of different camera lenses and filters. Many of the scenes are taken from Professor Salmon's window at Victoria University of Wellington, showing different moods in different weather patterns. They include early morning, afternoon, and night views, northerly wind and southerly wind cloud patterns, including a southerly storm. He also has a large number of images of Wellington Harbour and wharves, again taken in different lights, showing ships, reflections and buildings. Other sequences show views of the Hutt Valley, Silverstream, and Glenmore Street in Wellington, many taken on misty early mornings. The last scenes are coloured photographs showing some of the decorations erected for the Royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II, in January 1954. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). St Mary's Guild - Minute book

Description: Includes a copy of the deed from the minute book of 1910 in the opening pages. Deed outlines the general objectives and purposes of St Marys' Guild, rules pertaining to Guild trustees and membership, names of elected officers. The minutes detail the number of children in care, attending school, returning to their mothers; further entries include vistors' names, comments on girls leaving and returning to the Home, financial accounts, administrative records etc. Guild reports indicate that on average twenty-six girls resided at the main home and fourteen younger girls at Duncan Cottage during this period Relationship complexity - Loose material removed from volume is at MS-Papers-1925-39/1 Quantity: 1 volume(s).

Description: View of the 21 coffins of the unidentified victims in the open mass grave at the Karori Cemetery, Wellington. The grave is lined with tree fern fronds and wreaths have been laid on the coffins and along each side of the grave. Two groups of people can be seen. That on the left are public mourners. That on the right are the official group with the Duke of Edinburgh. The Tangiwai railway disaster occurred on Christmas eve, 1953, during the first visit to New Zealand of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke departed from the official programme to attend the mass burial which took place on December 31 1953. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).
