Description: The Lodge claims to be the oldest in New Zealand, started at Thames in 1872. Others were formed later in NZ and earlier in Australia. A NZ Grand Council was started in 1880 with eight lodges. In 1978 the Society split into three to reduce administrative costs and negotiations were made to transfer the records to ATL. Description: Comprises transcriptions by F McCormick of letters written by Parkinson to his family in Ireland between 1862 and 1866 while a sailor in Australasian waters. His letters were written from Melbourne, Lyttelton, Invercargill, Hobartown, Rockhampton, Newcastle, Manukau, Auckland and Ningpo and Saigon on the Cochin China coast. He writes of life on board ship, other people on board, food, the ports they visited and the countryside nearby, his revived observance of God, wages and conditions, the Maori and other matters. He sailed on the `Prairie', the `Bella May', the `Dispatch', the `Dart' and possibly others. Parkinson was a merchant sailor from Ireland who made several trips to Australasia before settling in Tasmania Quantity: 1 folder(s).

Description: Views, chiefly unidentified, of a trip in the South Island in January 1896, photographed by Algernon Charles Gifford. Most of the photographs are landscape views of lakes and mountains in the Wakatipu area, but there are a number showing a group of six unidentified people in the garden of a single-storeyed house with verandahs, at Paradise. In another scene a man and woman, two of the previous group, are shown in a field with the man wearing riding clothes, seated on a white horse, and the woman standing by the horse's head with a dog beside her. Also one photograph shows three young girls, Bessie and Daisy Fergus, and Agnes Mill, also at Paradise. A large two-storeyed house with verandahs upstairs and downstairs is seen in one image. An envelope attached inside the back cover, contains 14 loose photographs of similar views.
