Attribution based on style. George Curtis arrived in New Plymouth in 1849 on the 'Pekin'. Description: Photographs of construction projects undertaken by Hansford & Mills Construction Company. The most important section consists of views of Parliament Buildings in Wellington, with a large number of images, both exterior and interior. Much of the detail relates to the marble columns and veneer, the marble sourced from the Kairuru Quarry in the Takaka Hills. Interior views show details of various areas, including the Legislative Council Chamber, the House of Representatives, the Maori Committee Room, the lobby for the members' lounge, and marble decoration in the main vestibule, the first floor, and the staircase. There are a number of images of the Kairuru Quarry, showing methods of quarrying the marble, transportation of the marble to Wellington, and machinery used for cutting and shaping the stone once it had arrived in Wellington. One scene also shows the incline at the old quarry at Sandy Bay. Other buildings, all only exterior views, or views of steel construction in early stages, include the State Fire Insurance Building (Featherston Street), Magnus Motors (Wakefield Street), the steelyard in Cable Street, the Ford Building (for Colonial Motor Company), and the Wellington Gas Company buildings, all in Wellington. Also two views of the Christchurch branch of the Wellington Woollen Company. Description: Photographs on album pages: photograph of Mount Peel Station, its interior and grounds including Mr Acland in his study, his daughters and their friends identified by inititals, including one of L D Acland and B B Acland, the latter knitting a sock, and the Church of the Holy Innocence viewed across a field of hay stacks with the forest planted by Acland behind it; more of the same women boating and picnicking, including a view of a gorge taken by Harriet Acland, a church interior and Bishop Harper playing cricket with a young boy; Ilam homestead covered in clematis with balconies and verandahs and extensive grounds next to the Avon River, and the Watts Russell family group at Pareora August 1894 with their dog and saddled horses in the background; the West Coast Times printing office with the men outside it, C G Tripp and family and a Centerbury view; and two views of Tripp's homestead at Orari. Description: Two women seated and weaving, their work stretched on on sticks on the ground. Kete hanging from the walls of the whare and food parcels hanging down from the ceiling, along with a large bundle of dried flax. A small fire burns outside the whare. The pa is almost certainly Taupo Pa at Plimmerton, visited by the artist in September 1844 and drawn on the other side of this sheet of paper. Original sketch for a lithograph reproduced in G. F. Description: Album probably compiled by the mountaineer and explorer, A P Harper. Harper was also probably the photographer for many of the prints, especially those of mountains and mountaineering. There are Harper and Ackland family photographs which include interior and exterior views and views of the garden, of Ilam, the family mansion in Christchurch. The other main group of photographs relate to A P Harper's activities as a mountaineer and explorer in the Fox and Franz Joseph glacier regions. Some of the climbers active in the Southern Alps during the 1880s and 1890s are depicted. W S Green and his two Swiss guides, and at least one photograph taken by Green during his unsuccessful attempt to reach the summit of Mount Cook in 1882. Fitgerald, Zurbriggen, Mannering, and Dixon were all men that Harper was associated with as a mountaineer. As an explorer he was associated with Charles Douglas, and there are photographs of Douglas, Leonard Cockayne the botanist, and John Roberts of the Westland district survey. There are also many photographs of the mountains, glaciers, rivers, and gorges of the Southern Alps. Some of the English photographs at the beginning of the album may be associated with A P Harper's brother Charles who became an Anglican priest. He may have been the C C Harper who was at Keble College and Cuddesdon theological college, Oxford. There are two interiors of "C C Harper's room at Keble College", and a number of photographs of family groups taken in the grounds of the vicarage at Patea where Charles Harper was vicar from 1894 to 1900. The album ends with A P Harper and his house at Thames, and more British photographs, in particular several pages of Jersey taken about 1897 Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).

Description: Album of photographs, chiefly showing scenes in Western Australia, particularly around Coolgardie and Norseman. Most of the identified views were taken by Hemus & Hall (a photographic firm in Bayley Street, Coolgardie between 1895 and 1906). A number of views show the use of camels and camel trains in Western Australia, with one showing the first steam train entering Coolgardie on 23rd March 1896. Many of the images are unidentified, but two are shown as being in New Zealand. One shows the Thames Pharmacy, owned by George Denby; and the other is a bush scene at Waikawau.
