Description: Map of the Hutt River, showing proposed improvement works dated 1899 (which are hard to distinguish as they are in red on the original and camouflaged on this copy) from section 58 in the Huttt Valley southwards to the Waiwhetu River and the mouth of the Hutt River. Shows water levels, overflow and flood channels, watermarks, shingle areas, engineering measurements, site of the old and new bridge, the river channel as at 1870 compared to the current river channel. Cadastral section numbers are shown, as well as property owners, including Gear Meat Company, EJ Riddiford, Johnston, Felmonger, Carerhill, Kingdon, Randwick, Mudgeway, Pringle, as well as the site of the Catholic church. Gear Island, a pipe bridge south of it, Belmont Creek and the Waiwhetu River are shown. On catalogue card: Duplicated plan, PWD 19078. Quantity: 1 map(s). Description: A base map entitled Provisional map of the Hutt County has annotations depicting the authorised boundaries of the Hutt Electoral District, as authorised by the Representation Commission in 1909 which is referred to in a hand-written note. Areas included within the boundary are Pencarrow, Belmont, Rimutaka, Akatarawa and Eretonga [i.e. Heretaunga]. The area is named Hutt and includes the population total of 12753. Adjacent areas are named as Wellington suburbs, Otaki and Wairarapa, but no boundaries of these areas are included. Base map: Provisional map of the Hutt County. (Wellington, New Zealand Lands and Survey Department, [s.d.].) Base map shows numbered land blocks with acreages, timber and water reserves, forest reserves, a pastoral licence block, the Wellington and Railway Company blocks, named rivers and peaks, topographical detail. Base map includes the logo of the New Zealand Lands and Survey and the name of J. W. Marchant One signature is indeciferable and dated 16 Jany. 1909, which follows a handwritten note referring to the Representation Commission, the Electoral Act and Representation Act Initials on bottom right: E.W., 15.2.08 Title assigned by cataloguer Quantity: 1 map(s). Description: Cadastral map of part of the Roll Plan 544 held by the District's Office, Department of Lands and Survey, Wellington. Shows the Hutt District and part of the Harbour District and the Lowry Bay District. Each district is divided into numbered 100-acre blocks, listing owner's names, including: Molesworth, Watt, Child, Capt. Daniell, Hanson, Hunter, Wicksteed, Capt. Smith, Catchpool, Dr Evans, Kettle, St. Hill, Alzdorf, Riddiford, Stokes, Bidwell, Duppa, G Robins, J Forbes, W Tod, E Dunlop, D Grant, A Tennant, Hart, Partridge, Wieford, Parke, Bevans, Col. Wakefield, Jackson, T Wallace, Bevan. Shows over 20 Native (Maori) reserves. The map was surveyed by S.C. Brees, who was the principal surveyor for the New Zealand Company. Section 24 and part of section 28 are numbered.
