Description: Contains photographs and photographic copies of paintings illustrating Te Rangihaeata's house on Mana Island, Waitahanui Pa at Lake Taupo, meeting houses at Waihi (Taupo), Wairoa, Te Wairoa (Rotorua), Otaki, Ohinemutu, Morrinsville, Waiomatatini, Pokai, Whakarewarewa, Tokaanu, Koroniti and Thames. Also shown are a gateway at Te Teko and the gateway to a church at Nuhaka. The artists and photographers represented are G F Angas, A P Godber, A N Palmer, William Hall Raine, George Heron, Owen Johnston, E Edwards, and the New Zealand Railways Publicity Department. Includes images taken on a second visit to the Rotorua area (Oct 4-12 1948), showing lakes, thermal areas, mountain rifts and other geological formations. A boring plant testing the ground on the line of the proposed Rimutaka Tunnel; views of The Terrace, Wellington showing the office building of the New Zealand Geological Survey at 156 The Terrace; Mangaroa Basin plain; Hutt River valley; the Wellington fault scarp along Grant Road; the geology of the Paekakariki area of coastal lowland; the new Wellington City number 2 water supply tunnel from the upper Hutt River (14 Jan 1949). Description: Shows two tents beside a whare on the flat in the foreground, two small hills in the background framing Horohoro Mountain in the distance. R Springer in letter (AT 13/14/1, 20 August 1995), says: " ... the trig Horohoro, ... while just to the west of this is the Rahopakapaka Stream, almost certainly the scene of E-296-q-101-2, "Horahoro from our encampment at Raupaka River Nov 28, 1845".
