Description: Album of publicity photographs produced for New Zealand Railways by unidentified photographers. Many of the images are related to a series of articles produced in the new Zealand Railways Magazine between January 1939 and June 1940, written by O N Gillespie, with the overall title "Buy New Zealand goods and build new Zealand. New Zealand Industries series". In this album topics covered are glass manufacture and toys, novelties and woodworking. Many photographs show the beginning of work related to World War II, with a large number of views of New Zealand military parades in Wellington; views at Wellington wharves of the troopship the Empress of Canada; and scenes at the Wellington Railway station. Other views show various training activities of the Home Guard, including fire-fighting and medical training. Two pages of nine images show different views of the Oerlikon automatic gun (p 46-47), and there is one of a range finder (p 51). Description: Photographs taken by Albert Percy Godber, chiefly between 1934 and 1947, but including copies of some of his earlier photographs. Views include trips in the North and South Islands, and views of his home and family, especially in Whiteman's Valley Road and the area around Silverstream. Also various scenes of floods (Hutt River), and storm damage. Photographs associated with roads and railways include steam locomotives, tunnels, bridges and viaducts, some under construction. Among the trip photographs are views of Ngaruawahia, including King Koroki's house (opened in 1938) and the Maori Parliament House.
