Description: A cartoon showing Sir John Hall training his telescope in the direction of Athurs Pass (indicated by a signpost), while an old woman embodying "The Standard" newspaper, stands beside him. "Making New Zealand" comments that public opinion was in favour of the route to the West Coast being over Brownings Pass, but the "Standard" agreed with Sir John Hall.
