Description: Postcards, chiefly of Australia, including Tasmania, Adelaide, Queensland, New South Wales, with several showing various tin mines in Tasmania. There is a section of New Zealand postcards in the middle of the album, many taken by an Australian photographic company "Charles H Kerry & Co", labelled "Series 53. Hot Lakes District, New Zealand". These images are tinted, and include views of the Huka Falls, the Pink and White Terraces, Waiotapu, Ohinemutu, Whakarewarewa, Lakes Waikaremoana and Taupo, and the Aratiatia Rapids. The NZ images also include views of the Mount Cook region of the South Island, including Franz Josef Glacier, Hooker Glacier, Mounts Darwin, Sefton and Cook, and Lakes Te Anau and Wakatipu. Description: Photograph album of New Zealand scenes The first sequence contains views of the road from Christchurch to the West Coast, taken by Daniel Mundy in February 1868. Another group are of further scenes in the South Island taken by the Burton Brothers around the Dunedin area. There are several views of Scotland and England, including one of the Brendon Hill Incline, an iron-mining area in Exmoor, and a view of the Larkworthy family castle in Aberdeenshire (name of the castle not clear in album). Later views in the album are taken by unidentified photographers, and include scenes of the Franz Josef Glacier, with the Waiho River; sluicing for gold at Black Gully; a tubular flume at Donnellys Creek; the Totara Ferry; viaduct at Jones' Creek; bush at Donoghues; and views of Ross and Hokitika. Description: Album of photographs relating to mountains and mountaineering in the Southern Alps. A photograph of George John Roberts, Charles Edward Douglas, and Leonard Cockayne (p 1), was probably taken by George Roberts' wife, who took one of the group at the same time but in different positions (See image at PAColl-5926-13) C H Stonor is seen with "Dr Teichmann" [i.e. Ebenezer Teichelmann] (p 40). Two photographs at the end of the album are of Tasmania, one showing a bush scene with a small waterfall; and one taken by John Watt Beattie of Hobart from the bay. Description: A pocket inside the front cover of this album contains 23 loose photographs of landscapes in New Zealand, many of them Government Publicity Photos. In the South Island various views show Milford and the Milford Track, Tasman Glacier, Mount Cook, and the Buller Gorge. In the North Island there are several views of a group of fallow deer near Featherston; two of geysers at Whakarewarewa; and two of caves in the Waitomo Cave system, showing the underground river in the Aranui Cave, and stalactites in the Ruakuri cave. The main body of the album contains older photographs, circa 1890s, of townscapes in the Wairarapa. Two scenes show groups of Maori performers, one of a posed group of men and women, some holding taiaha and mere; the other of a group of young girls dancing on a podium.
