Description: Album of black & white photographs taken during the early 1900s, showing geological formations in New Zealand. They include images of the Banks Peninsula, Sumner, Heathcote-Avon Estuary, Lyttelton Harbour, and the Halswell River, in several sequences in the album; flooding of the Koputaroa Stream at Levin, on 4 December 1906; Lake Horowhenua; Paekakariki Coast; the Wairarapa, including Orongorongo Valley, Wharekauhau Stream, Wainuiomata, Palliser Bay, Mukamuka Valley, Eglinton's Hut; Tongariro National Park area, including Waiouru (in which the stables of Crowther & McCauley coach services are visible), the source of the Waikato River at the gorge and waterfall of the Mangatoetoenui Stream; Mount Ruapehu, crater lake, the Waihohonu Hut, Te Heuheu Peak, Flounder Glacier and Waikato Glacier; Mount Ngauruhoe, slopes and craters and the source of the Ohinepango Stream; Mount Tongariro, Ketetahi Springs and Ketetahi Hut, craters and crater lakes including the Red crater, and Blue and Green Lakes

Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams'). The first slide shows the house at 48 Hume Street, Crows Nest, Sydney owned by friends of Mr Williams. The next group are taken from a published guide to the Tarawera eruption, some showing the area before the eruption and one of the effects after the eruption. The following slides show scenes on the West Coast and Canterbury. Many relate to geological and rock formations, including Punakaiki pancake rocks, a sample of orbicular granite at Karamea and a high terrace at Karamea, rocks in the sea at Scotts Bay, cliffs on the Rakaia River, and moraine at Franz Josef Glacier. There are also images of white rata, cows heading to milking and on pasture, and a butter factory in Christchurch. The last two images were taken by Neville Hatwell, one of the Tasman Glacier from the air, and one of the road over the Crown range. Slides on this sheet are numbered 746-897, with nos. 756 to 825 (all on Australia) removed for a lecture series which Mr Williams gave when he returned to England. Those removed are filed in a later sequence. Arrangement: Mr Williams transferred slides (nos. 898-899, 901, 903, 905, and 921-922) to create representative collections on New Zealand and Australia which he used in lecture series on his return to England. Description: Views of New Zealand taken by Sir Edmund Oswald Teale, who visited New Zealand to attend a meeting of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science in Dunedin between December 1903 and January 1904. Images include a number showing geological formation along the route between Napier and Taupo; images of hot springs and mud pools, and the Aratiatia Rapids; Napier and Wellington. Views of the South Island include many in the Mount Cook region, and show various glaciers, including the Tasman Glacier, Hochstetter Glacier, and the Hooker Glacier; geological aspects of moraines, crevasses and moulins associated with glaciers; Lake Pukaki; alpine flowers in the Tasman Valley; a carriage and horses near the Hermitage, with Mount Sefton visible behind; the Mataura River and Bluff.
