The lower photograph (PA1-f-195-52-2) shows the tangi of Te Keepa Te Rangihiwinui at Putiki, 24 April 1898. Note the kakahu (cloaks) draped over the fence. Description: Shows the carved decorated tomb (wahi tapu) of the Ngati Rahiri chief Huriwhenua, set within its own fence and with the palisades of a pa for protection. The carved war canoe of Huriwhenua is set upright into the earth. The pa was close to Te Awaiti, Tory Channel, Marlborough Angas visited New Zealand in 1844. This is a redrawing of his lithograph 'Tomb of Huriwhenua' plate 23 in his The New Zealanders illustrated (London, 1847). The copyist is probably H. W. Kirkwood One of four lithographs on one sheet, all copies of work by Angas and probably all copied by Kirkwood. Description: The left half of the page shows a wooden dwelling house thatched with raupo with a fence, a gateway, and an unusually long ridgepole. Below it is the end of another house (a cooking house) made of wood with a tekoteko (carved figurehead) at the top of its ridgepole. Both buildings are at Tu Kaitohe or Kaitoke Pa, Te Wherowhero's pa at the foot of Taupiri Mountain, Waikato The right side of the page shows at the top, two figures seated opposite one another and crying (the tangi or crying match). Below they are 'pressing noses' (hongi) and at the bottom of the page, they are hugging. Beside them is a sketch of a pole, three feet long, with white feathers 'wound into scarlet things'. Contents of an album and postcards of Auckland

Description: Government troops at Parihaka in 1881. Gudgeon with a group of European men and women on the verandah of Queen Makea's house in Avarua, Rarotonga. King Koroki's funeral in May 1966. Edith Tuke and her Napier house in the 1890s. A man on hoseback at "Wairoro." Soldiers with a field gun. A memorial cross. Two children ca 1905. A sheet of 8 postcards relating to Auckland Other material includes short typed notes relating to Gudgeon; a letter to Beryl Gudgeon from the Auckland Museum dated 1936; an obituary for Mr C R Howden; information relating to Arthur Tuke's career dated 1876. Except for the Auckland postcards, the material in this collection was contained in an album entitled "Gudgeon 1965-1920." This album judging from the captions which were on each page, contained photographs relating to Gudgeon's life. By the time the album reached the Turnbull Library, these photographs had gone and it was filled with an assortment of items, none of which related to the captions on the plastic pages.
