The French government was reluctant to acknowledge and apologise for its role in the bombing of the Greenpeace vessel Rainbow Warrior which was tied up at the Princes Wharf in Auckland, New Zealand on 10 July 1985. Description: This album, apparently compiled by Dudley Alexander (Lord Ranfurly's aide-de-camp and secretary), begins with a tour of France (which may have been undertaken by Alexander alone) in January 1897, continues with the Ranfurly family's journey out to New Zealand via Canada, Hawaii and Fiji; and concludes with images of the family's time in New Zealand, mostly in the South Island and in the years up to 1900. the album includes two photographs taken in the 1860s showing the old Government House in Wellington, originally built by Edward Gibbon Wakefield. Description: Four cartoons all featuring David Lange. The first, by Trace Hodgson shows Lange talking to Ronald Reagan and Bob Hawke, Reagan and Hawke are dressed as gangsters and Reagan says, `We want to be your friends, David, we want to look after you. So play the game or we'll smash your kneecaps in! Right, Bob?' Hawke replies `Right boss'; Bob Brockie, shows Bob Hawke being sprayed in the face with a cannister with a peace sign on it as he passes through New Zealand customs. Hawke says, `Starve the lizards Lange, this stuff gets up my nose!', to which Lange replies, `Helps clear the mind'; Chicane, shows Lange in a pair of swimming togs riding a surfboard in a nuclear free Pacific. Lange says, `If you want to rule the waves... you have to be prepared to waive the rules'. Glover relates the fate of friends they both know in the war, the activities of men who have returned home from the war, local gossip and Glover's promotion in the postal service. Description: The cartoon shows a French rugby player, carrying a rugby ball, walking up the North Island. He is being watched by a man representing the N.Z.R.F.U. and in his wake are a disappointed man, representing Nelson Combined rugby team, and a cow repesenting the Taranaki rugby team. The cow has collapsed in a defeated heap on Mount Taranaki. Refers to the first tour to New Zealand by the French team. The tourists had just defeated Taranaki 11 - 9.
