New Minister outside of Cabinet, Marie Hasler wants to change the NZ flag to say something like 'NZ for sale as, where is!' Jenny Shipley says it's not quite what they're looking for. National's Bill Birch reassures the NZ public about the world wide economic crisis. Jenny Shipley calls for a confidence vote for National's 'vague and ill-defined policies.' National Party Finance minister, Bill Birch panics about the world economic situation. Jenny Shipley reassures the public National has a calm and sober hand on the economic tiller. The new Minister of Police, Clem Simich promises to raise police morale. A senior police officer asks Simich if he's resigning already. Description: Political cartoons. Paralells between the Nazi ethnic cleansing of the Jews in the 1940's and the ethnic cleansing in Europe in the 1990's. Shows Milosevic soaking in a blood bath to take his mind off the Nato bombing raids. A Serbian soldier explains to the West via a reporter the reasons behind their present actions. The electricity reforms continue to cost the consumer more. The military invite refugees from Kosovo to return to their destroyed homes. Milosevic is prepared to destroy Kosovo in order to save it. Shows India testing a long-range nuclear missile off the back of a cow. Shows Nato commander explaining their strategy of punishing Milosevic by bombing Serbia. This resulted in mass destruction of property and life but no direct harm to Milosevic. New Zealand yachties receive large slaries but are not prepared to pay for weather data from Government Agencies. Serbs use human shields to protect their forward tank movement. Following sex scandals, the Scouts tighten up their screening of adult supervisors. Helen Clark and Jenny Shipley fight over their respective attributes. They agree that women bring poise to politics even in an arguement. Max Bradford gets the country into trouble over electricity reforms. Minister of Tourism, Murray McCully, objects but does not intervene in large, secret and tax-free payouts to directors he forced to resign. Comment on Anzac Day commemorations. Shows two men in their respective backyards burning their Hurricanes supporters rugby gear, comment on another year where the Hurricanes have not played well. Comment on Tau Henare's behaviour of holding onto his Cabinet position when his party, NZ First, pulled out of the National coalition government. Minister of Tourism, Murray McCully, is encouraged to resign after a tourism related row adversely affects National's position in the polls. A new flag for America with a hand holding a smoking gun. Description: A group of six red-coated soldiers (with part of a seventh on the far right) and one "friendly" Maori in the foreground, behind a low shelter, loading and shooting towards the extensive palisades of Hone Heke's pa at Ohaiawai. The palisades are shown with rifle holes continously along the base to enable firing from behind protection; the English soldiers and their companion, on the other hand, are having to raise their heads above their shelter to fire, with the exception of those on the far right, who are behind a Maori-style palisade. The title is New Plymouth from Marsland Hill. To the left of St Mary's, the two-storied building is Marsland Hotel and military Hospital. To the right, across the road, past the troops, the high-gabled single-storey building with a small porch by its door is the Maori Chapel. The two-storied building opposite the chapel is the Military Hospital. Further off to the right, the tallest building is the Wesleyan Chapel. Description: The fortification on Marsland Hill at New Plymouth with a large hospital tent in front and many Maori and Pakeha in front of it. In the foreground, groups of Maori and Pakeha, including a man performing a challenge, with an axe. The occasion appears to be festive, with many flags strung up and families present, possibly after the cessation of hostilities at New Plymouth. Based on a watercolour in Edward Arthur Williams' sketchbook, called Taranaki (E-348-131/13l). There is also a watercolour of the same subject called New Plymouth 18 June 1864 by E. A. Description: Shows a view, after a sketch by G. Norbury in 1863, of a fortified St Bride's Church, Mauku, surrounded by a tent encampment. The camp was the right wing of the Movable Column, generally known as the Flying Column, commanded by Colonel Marmaduke Nixon, and consisting of Imperial troops and Militia. In this scene they are engaged in patrol duty. A farmer passes through the encampment leading four oxen pulling a cart. The Flying Column flag flies to the right of the church, bearing the initials 'F' and 'C'. A number of soldiers stand guard The Church of St Bride's at Mauku was one of Auckland's 'Selwyn churches' (built by Bishop Selwyn) built in 1859 and named for London's St Bride's in Fleet Street.
