Description: Comprises two travel diaries for Evelyn Nina Hare (nee Watson-Munro). The first diary records details of the author's travels from London, around the United Kingdom and Europe between August 1950 to November 1950. It also records details of the sea voyage aboard the `Akaroa', which departed Southampton, 17 November 1950 and arrived in Wellington, 26 December 1950. The second travel diary recounts three sea voyages to the Pacific Islands, as well as trips around Australia and New Zealand. The first voyage travels to the Pacific Islands and Australia aboard the 'Oronsay'. Departed from Auckland on 19 May 1975 and returned 4 June 1975. The second voyage travels to the Pacific Islands and Australia aboard the 'Pacific Princess', which departed Auckland 11 May 1976 and arrived in Sydney 21 May 1976. It also describes the author's trip to Sydney after departing the ship. The third voyage travels to Australia and the Pacific Islands aboard the 'Fairstar'. Departed Auckland 26 June 1977 and returned 18 July 1977. It also describes the author's travels through the North Island from Auckland to Wellington between 18 July 1977 and 24 July 1977. Description: The microfilm comprises six journals (1852-1867), copy of typescript letter (1840) and `Pilgrimage to Jerusalem' by Luce (7-13 Oct 1841) The journals are described as private journals; vols 1-4 covering 1852 to 1863 and Luce's service including Portsmouth, Karatch Bay, Malta, Cape Coast, Sierra Leone and Dahomey Luce writes of his service in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific in volumes 5 and 6. Volume 5 (1864-1866) includes an index of contents, notes and clippings and detailed descriptions of the `Esk' being at Auckland, going to Tauranga, the East Coast and Poverty Bay, Wellington, New Hebrides, Fiji and Sydney, with descriptions of cattle trade, a journey to Wanganui. Also includes lists of letters written and sent, and received, readable books in the ship's library and of `Officers and dates of dining with me'. Volume 6 (1866-1867), which is described as a very rough notebook, includes a photograph of Luce (1865) and clippings and covers the `Esk' being in Auckland, Thames, Norfolk Island, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fiji, Tonga and the Friendly Islands. Includes description of a trip round and up the Waikato River and a cruise from Thames to Wellington.
