Description: Album of photographs taken by Albert Lyndsay McKenzie, showing Haywards substation, Centennial Exhibition, Union Airways aircraft at Rongotai airport, and views of war memorials, other monuments, some buildings and parks and gardens in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. There are also some scenic views of rivers and landscape, and one photograph of bee keepers at work on hives. Albert Lyndsay McKenzie, the father of the donor, was born in Christchurch. Girl Guide Association of New Zealand album 3

Description: Photographs of leaders of the Girl Guide Association, Girl Guides, Brownies and Rangers, and various activities throughout New Zealand. The first pages show the move from old headquarter buildings in Hastings to new buildings in Christchurch, in September 1961. They include the transfer of equipment by truck and by air freight, and views of different aspects of the new premises. Later views show visiting Girl Guide leaders attending conferences and training courses; ceremonial occasions attended by Lord Cobham in 1962, and by Sir Bernard and Lady Fergusson. Lady Fergusson was the Dominion President during their term in New Zealand. One section of the album shows activities of Girl Guides and Brownies in the Cook Islands, and also in Western Samoa. A number of the camps were attended by Girl Guides from Pacific countries, with many of the Guides named in the album. Various activities undertaken by the Guides include the sale of Girl Guide biscuits, ANZAC Day commemorations, Thinking Day ceremonies, rallies, and the awards of special badges. Description: Album of photographs taken between the 1860s and 1890s by various unidentified photographers, with one identified as being possibly by Daniel Louis Mundy, and one by James Bragge. Two early photographs, one of `Oakbourne Station', the home of John Davis Canning was taken circa 1860s, and one of `Orua Wharo' the home of John Johnston, and later his son Sydney Johnston, was taken circa 1870s, before the new house was built in 1879. Page 7 contains pressed ferns. Non-New Zealand photographs include several of Fiji, including Levuka, Taveuni, and an avenue of palms; one of the carving on Sir Joshua Reynold's bed at Tarrington; one of an Elizabethan glass cup; a carved overmantel; two views of Arundel House at Brighton, and one of Heston Church near Osterley Park. In the North Island, apart from the views of Oakbourne and Orua Wharo in the Hawke's Bay region, there are several views of the Pink and White Terraces, two showing the White Terraces both empty and full, Clay Island beneath the White Terraces; two views of the Manawatu Gorge and Seventy Mile Bush; and a view of Wellington City. South Island views include Milford Sound, Stewart Island, Braida Crags, the Wyndham River; a large group of people at celebrations surrounding the laying of the foundation stone for St John's Church in Invercargill; and two views of an exhibition of a Japanese village displaying such things as banners, lanterns and furniture, held in a hall in Invercargill. Public cynicism of Michael Cullen's proposed Superannuation scheme. Farmers discussing their lack of confidence in ENZA. Cartoonist's reaction to the disparity between the financial levels of sports peoples and other people when being assessed to be published on the 'rich list'. Comment on the publication that 'kiwi kids' are overweight. Early visitors arrive on the shores of New Zealand with the comment that the natives may regret not having an immigration policy. Refers to the NZ cricket teams decision to stop their point scoring run glut against Australia and take the bonus point offered by a technicality. Shows two young school boys discussing public educations failure to teach reading, writing and numeracy. Shows Jim Anderton on the steps of Treasury with water flooding under the front doors and down the steps. Comment on Anderton's attempts to stop the 'leaks' coming from Treasury. Comment on the public boredom over multi-millionaire Steve Fossett's attempts to fly around the world non-stop in a hot-air balloon. Shows Marian Hobbs with a large wind instrument wrapped around her playing 'NZ Music' to a man who represents the NZ public. He has a large flat neck collar on representing the new NZ music quota. The collar prevents him from putting his fingers in his ears should not wish to listen to the music. Comment on prison staff's industrial 'go-slow' and the opportunities it creates for prisoners to escape. Shows a large area of forestry being felled for the sake of sending 'positive signals' to overseas companies. Shows an elderly couple, justifying to a squad of police officers at their front door, that they are doing all they can in the nationwide drive to save electricity. Shows Marian Hobbs introducing a rock band called 'Marian and the quotas'. Shows Sam Neill at the Jurassic Park 3 movie premiere with an old pre-historic friend. Shows a woman in an art gallery asking if a framed display is a piece of art.
