Description: The first 19 slides are untitled but show mycorrhiza (fungi) on douglas fir roots; the trunk of a "rusty gum", kowhai seeds; bark of several trees including eucalyptus sideroxylon and an oak tree; one jacaranda bloom and jacarnda foliage; hellebore corsicus; hosta leaves; a Judas tree; eucalyptus micocorys; bunya pine tree; twisted maple trunk; Friesian heifers; a eucalyptus maculosa; and wych elm blossom. The last three show the Homestead at Takahe Creek, and a man only identified by Christian name "John" with Rusty the spaniel in the garden. Quantity: 22 colour original transparency/ies. Description: Slides taken by Rhoda McWhannell showing various aspects of life at Rozel, the farm and nursery owned by Rhoda McWhannell and her husband "Mac" (Frederick Brayshaw McWhannell). Views include the house, views from the house, the tree nursery, flowers, laden lemon trees, twenty-year old gum trees, "Stewart" sawing a felled tree, and several views of the red gum tree (corymbia ficifolia, formerly known as eucalyptus ficifolia). Other views show the entrance and driveway, sheep, parts of their garden, eucalyptus ficifolia in flower, a rimu and hydrangeas. One scene shows a group of four women playing croquet on a lawn. Description: Views of the gardens and trees at Rozel, the forest farm owned by Mac (Frederick Brayshaw McWhannell) and Rhoda McWhannell. They include the entrance, the Rozel nursery, eucalyptus trees, Judas trees in bloom, a royal oak and oak blossom, and pinus radiata bloom. One image shows Fred, Merta and Robert (Frederick McWhannell, Merta and Robert Alford); and another shows three men identified only by their Christian names (Ross, Jock and Cliff). The last ten slides are entitled "Rozel. Illustrations for journal". They include views of the house, poplars, "Wee Dug" their dog, a croquet match played on Anzac Day 1961, sweet oranges, lemons and lemon blossom, Japanese maples, George (?) and a Judas tree. Description: Shows a two-storied gabled house among trees (including a young nikau in the left foreground), with a driveway in the left foreground. There are tall trees behind the house and hills in the background, with a smaller cottage to the right of the main house Possibly Henry Redwood's house, in the Appleby-Waimea district, Nelson. Identified by current the owners of Henry Redwood's home (built 1866) during a visit to the Library in July 2005. The owners state that is either the house of Henry Redwood senior, or 'Headensford' about 1 km distant, built by Henry Redwood for his son, Henry Redwood junior, 'The father of New Zealand turf'. The large trees behind the house are likely to be the original bluegums planted there. The smaller cottage to the right was made of mud brick and was destroyed in the 1929 earthquake The nikau in the foreground was possibly planted by the Redwood family. Description: Album of photographs showing the progress made by Frederick McWhannell and his wife Rhoda McWhannell, from breaking in the land in 1923, including felling scrub, to a fully functional farm with cows, sheep, pigs, and areas of forestry. Various activities are shown in detail, including hay-making and ensilage; planting trees including eucalypts, pinus insignis, lausoniana; building a water tank from scratch; creating a tennis court from scratch; and the development of the house garden. Most of the people shown are wither not identified, or only by Christian name.
