Description: Set of photographs of drainage operations on the Hauraki Plains. Spoil from the canal and ditch construction was used as foundation for roads so road construction is also shown. The photographs include two men hay harvesting in front of a small house, a man in a flax field, a dredge at work, the labourers' camp, boats moored at a jetty in Ngatea. Description: Cadastral map of the subdivision between Johnston Hill Reserve and Homewood Crescent, Karori. Numbered lots, two of which have 'Sold' stickers, include boundary measurements and acreages in perches, some driveways and sites of proposed houses. Houses are marked at Nos. 27. 29 and 38 Homewood Crescent. Streams are marked and are linked to a stormwater drain. Sewer lines, manholes, power poles, lamp holes, a kerb, footpath, handrail and a road reserve boundary are marked. Johnson Hill Reserve has a reference to Crown Land and a W.C.C. caretaker. Includes areas of native bush, some being planted. The map is almost entirely colourwashed. Description: Album chiefly shows members of a Lands & Survey team surveying boundaries etc, in the Chatham Islands, and in South Canterbury, circa 1938. Residents of the Chatham Islands, various locations in the islands and activities such as sheep transportation from the islands to Lyttelton and Wellington by ship are shown. Another sequence shows drainage and irrigation procedures in South Canterbury. The photographer is probably Russell Gladstone Dick, later the New Zealand Surveyor-General.
