Description: 46 images of the Duke of Gloucester's tour of New Zealand in 1934-5 including: nine of his visit to Rotorua including Maori kapa haka; one of veterans at the bridge of remembrance in Christchurch; one of him opening Tekapo bridge and another of the party at Tekapo House hotel; one of him in a crowd outside the railway station in Hokitika; one of him inspecting a parade of nurses; one of him visiting a traditional whare; two of him as a jockey at a race meeting; three of the felling of a kauri tree; seven of his stay at Longbeach sheep station, Ashburton County; and two of him at the Waitangi memorial. Description: Scenic views of Cambridge, the lake at Hamilton, Puketeraki, Piha, and the farm `Rozel' near Ohaupo, interspersed with portraits of family and friends, chiefly taken by Rhoda McWhannell. One photograph shows Rhoda McWhannell's parents (William Duncan Ross McCurdie and Olga Mariquita McCurdie) reading congratulatory messages on their Golden Wedding Anniversary. This album gives the date as 1942, but a previous album gives it as 1941. Rex Hamilton, Bill Hewett and Frederick McWhannell are photographed in military uniform. Description: Sketches depicting incidents arising out of a taua or raiding party visiting Parawera settlement to exact revenge after a case of adultery. The marae, various groupings of iwi, dances, fights, haka, horseriding, and competitions are depicted, along with a visit from the police. The Parawera group were Ngati Apakura, Te Wherowhero's iwi, and the visitors in search of payment were Ngati Raukawa, Ngati Hourua and Ngati Koroki. Ngati Haua are also mentioned in one sketch. Description: Shows a group of fisherman on a wharf where some small boats are tied up. One man sits with a black and white dog at his feet, and talks to a man standing beside two barrels full of fish. One of the barrels has the initials JM in large letters on the side. Some shallow baskets of fish with one or two fish in them, lie in the foreground. Further away on the right, a man hoses down the wharf, in front of a flagstaff with a blue and red flag flying. A red buoy floats in the left foreground, and there are some abandoned fishing rods on the wharf at the left. Some buildings at Port Chalmers are visible in the left background.
