Description: Photographs of Kamo (Whangarei), Rodney County and Coromandel, taken, probably in the 1900s, by Daniel P Parker of Coromandel. Includes views of the construction on a timber dam (probably in Coromandel), Coromandel Public Hospital, Kennedy Bay (Coromandel), a stream crossing between Opitonui and Coromandel, bush camps in the Coromadel district and a traffic bridge in Rodney County. Daniel P Parker is recorded in the Wise's Post Office directories as an engineer in Coromandel from 1902 to 1930. Between 1906 and 1911 he is also recorded as a photographer. Description: Shows Bill Birch, Minister of National Development and Prime Minister Rob Muldoon on a tractor that represents the 'Clutha High Dam'. It is being pushed by a much larger tractor representing 'legislation'. The Clutha dam was a key policy plank in National's "Think big" strategy.When the High Court refused the scheme a water right the government promptly wheeled up special legislation. Description: Shows the Clutha River flowing through a canyon. On one side stand Clyde Dam workers hammering a sign into the ground which demands a 15 per cent pay rise. On the other side are Muldoon and Bill Birch wearing a hard hat. Muldoon is angrily refusing to meet the workers' demands. At the bottom of the canyon two scientists from the D.S.I.R. Description: Hydro electric power and irrigation dams, in particular the construction of the Pool Burn Reservoir dam. Some dam sites before construction, specifically a site on the Manuherikia River for the "Manuherikia Falls Dam". There are photographs of "White Creek Fault" and the effects of the Murchison earthquake on roads, bridges and the countryside. Especially covered is the lake formed by an earth slide across the Matakitaki River Likely to be a very interesting collection. Furkert was a leading public servant through the 1920s and 1930s. Two smaller mounted photographs of a river in the Catlins District. Three pages from a photograph album holding five photographs of the building of the Arapuni Dam on the Waikato River including the buried forest exposed by the Waikato River diversion. Three loose prints by J W France of an early settlers' cottage made of ponga with a turf roof and with the family outside; a group of six workmen standing on the road they were building with long handled shovels and a boy and a dog in front of them; and the funeral procession of Sir John MacKenzie in 1901 led by a pipe band up the main road in Oamaru working.
