Description: Diary kept by Hall who emigrated to New Zealand in 1913 and worked on the West Coast in mines, including Blackball, and various parts of Canterbury including Christchurch, as a general labourer and handyman; includes accounts, expenses, his observations and participation in the 1913 strikes on the coast, a record of the noon weather while he was sailing, notes etc. Also two dried leaves, one with `Capetown May 16th 1913. A Hall' written on it and the other with `From Capetown May 16th 1913. To My Dear Mother from Arthur'. Diary - Sketchbook two

Description: Electronic files comprise the second sketch book of a two-volume diary kept by Dora Foljambe of her tour of New Zealand. The diary continues with the Foljambe family's travels around New Zealand. Setting out from Wellington they head north to Rotorua and Tarawera. The diary briefly details local Maori and their preparation for the Prince of Wales's visit in late April 1920 in Rotorua. There are sketches of local Maori, flora, fauna and landscapes. On 1st May the Foljambe family depart for England aboard the SS Corinthic. Further sketches of shipboard life and seascapes as the vessel passes through the Panama Canal, past Cuba and up the East Coast of America to Chesapeake Bay and Newport, Rhode Island. The last entry is for the beginning of June. Other - Page 30 of the diary was blank, so the donor did not supply the Library with an image of this page.
