Description: Photographs taken by Albert Percy Godber between 1915 and 1916. Many of the images show various aspects of logging in Piha and Karekare. Views include the Piha Tramway, bush railway inclines, scenes of lumbermen cutting down kauri trees and cross-cutting felled trees, transportation of logs by bullock teams and horse-drawn rail wagons, the Piha timber camp and mill and men at everyday activities in camp buildings and in their workmen's huts. Other sections of the album show views of Petone, and Godber's family (his wife, Laura Godber, and two children, Phyllis and William (Bill)); views of the central North Island; farming in the Mendip Hills (Canterbury); and views of Trentham. Photographs of Armagh Street Bridge show wrought ironwork rather than solid stone in the top section. United Service Hotel building was under construction in 1885 and was completed about 1886. At the left is a map of "somewhere in France", and at the right is a map of New Zealand, a cabbage tree and a farmhouse. There is a verse which reads: "For England, home and beauty / For Christmas and for you, / With heart and hands across the sea / Here comes my greeting true. Description: View looking south, possibly from where the Waikato River exits from the lake. There are six Maori in a canoe in the foreground and part of a village in the right foreground with a carved wharenui, with three Maori on the front porch. A smaller hut is to the left of the wharenui. There are cabbage trees and flax bushes around the marae area. There is a smaller canoe on the lake in the middle distance. Mounts Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu can be seen in the distance. Mount Tongariro has steam rising from its crater Compare a very similar watercolour by Baker in his sketchbook E-628-005.
