Description: Photographs of leaders of the Girl Guide Association, Girl Guides, Brownies and Rangers, and various activities throughout New Zealand. The first pages show the move from old headquarter buildings in Hastings to new buildings in Christchurch, in September 1961. They include the transfer of equipment by truck and by air freight, and views of different aspects of the new premises. Later views show visiting Girl Guide leaders attending conferences and training courses; ceremonial occasions attended by Lord Cobham in 1962, and by Sir Bernard and Lady Fergusson. Lady Fergusson was the Dominion President during their term in New Zealand. One section of the album shows activities of Girl Guides and Brownies in the Cook Islands, and also in Western Samoa. A number of the camps were attended by Girl Guides from Pacific countries, with many of the Guides named in the album. Various activities undertaken by the Guides include the sale of Girl Guide biscuits, ANZAC Day commemorations, Thinking Day ceremonies, rallies, and the awards of special badges. Description: Pamphlet lists 26 significant trees of the species fir, copper beech, blackwood, gingko, macrocarpa, monket puzzle, kauri, oak, weeping lime, plane, ponderosa pine, sequoia, alder, weeping willows from St Helena, Norway spruce, cabbage tree, incense cedar, most to be found in Christchurch, but some in Cheviot, Homebush Station, Balmoral, Hanmer. The cabbage tree at Burnside High School is mentioned. The tree most recently planted is the oak planted by Lord Cobham in North Hagley Park in 1962 before his return to Britain. Description: Album of photographs covering the period 1922 to 1961 in the history of the Girl Guide movement in New Zealand, with links to the movement in other countries. Views include the visits of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Elizabeth II with Prince Philip; various ceremonial occasions with New Zealand dignitaries presiding; many views of Girl Guide camps in different parts of the country, including at Otimai, Omatua and Arahina (all properties run for the Girl Guides Association). Several images show a ceremonial tour of a scroll commemorating the visit to New Zealand of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, and a jigsaw puzzle to be presented by Girl Guides for the royal children. These toured throughout New Zealand. Photographs of delegates to overseas conferences and rallies are included in the album, including a group at Cooperstown, USA, in 1948, and the Oxford World Conference in 1950.
