Researcher has suggested the mine is Webb Mine and the men may be (left to right) Jim Wilson, shot firer; Alfie Dawes (eating a sandwich) and Harry Betteley or Ollie Henderson. Caption - Caption at backfile reads: " Crib time in a wet mine. 'Crib' is a miner's term for a snack. Typical of crib are the sandwich (centre) and the bottle of cold tea (right). Description: Plans from the Strongman Mine Committee of Inquiry, 1967, from the chairman, lawyer and senior magistrate Mr Patterson. Detailed view of 'C' seam showing barrier supports, Kiwi Creek and large section of the mine. Coloured annotations in red and blue pencil highlighting main return path (red) and main intake path (blue) as well as heating (red). Legend includes board and brattice stopping, fire dams, doors, air crossings, telephones, underground ambulance station, direction air current and airways. Removed from donor's study after the sale of his house Traced by RS Bennett, 7/7/1960. Description: A mule named Balsen dragging four loaded coal wagons from entrance of the Hunter & Parry private mine. Miner, Bob Naisbitt, stands next to the first wagon. Taken by D J McKay in the West Coast Region. Published in the Free Lance on the 2nd of January 1959. Identity of the mule, the mine, and the miner supplied by Bob Naisbitt, son of the miner (see Feedback 19 June 2007). The Hunter & Parry private mine was situated on the Rewanui railway line about ten miles from Greymouth. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).
