Description: A collection of postcards and printed views (possibly from a magazine) of New Zealand scenes primarily of towns and cities rather than scenic views. They include one of two Maori women washing clothes at Rotorua, another of the Royal visit in 1927 and a family group of seven men and three women possibly taken in Belfast. A number of the postcards have been used. Inside front cover shows a calendar for the last part of 1915, and January-September 1916. There is a foreword by company founder Robert Laidlaw, photographs of the Auckland sales staff, photographs of the showrooms of each department and portraits of the staff who ran them; photographs of office staff at work and the shop equipment (entrance stairs, elevator, employees dining room, currant cleaner and raisin stemmer, the packing department), and an illustration of the warehouse on the corner of Hobson and Wyndham Streets. There follows an advertisement for the company's book of plans and specifications for houses, and an account of the way the war was affecting prices and supplies of goods (See pages 18-21). Description: Opens with Queenstown and Dunedin, and closes with the SS Rotorua in George Sound and Mitre Peak, Milford Sound. But most of the rest of the album relates to the Auckland region. There is a strong emphasis on Piha its coastal features like Lion Rock, and on groups of mainly men who went there on camping, hunting and fishing weekends or holidays. There is also one image of a group of surveyors and their camp at Piha dated 1894. Many images record social outings and picnics, especially at Northcote. These include both men and women dressed up for the occasion. There is a goup image of the St James Football Club dressed for the game dated 1895. Two photographs show a horse and buggy driven by a youthful Uncle Harold accompanied by Grandpa Jenkin and baby Irene. Another shows Mr Ogles's horse and cart, and another Jim Bailey's (of Cabbage Bay) ox team. There is also an image of a team of horses and a sled taking the milk to the factory at Onewhereo. There are images of waterfalls at Karekare and Nihotapu (Waiatura), and of the Nihotapu Creek. Description: Photographs collected by Mrs Esther Ecclesfield for her daughter Esma Ecclesfield (i.e. Esther Mary Ecclesfield, later known as Esther Mary North, or Esma North). None of the people shown are identified. Several images show camping and views of bays on Waiheke island. Many of the photographs were taken in the Napier area, including several of a woman and two young girls with bicycles standing outside a house in Seaview terrace, Napier, and an interior view of the house; yachts; the Napier Arcade, with the Arcadia Tea-Rooms; children at a Napier beach; and a horse-drawn carriage travelling through water along the foreshore to Cape Kidnappers. Page 4 shows the original Otatara (Ashridge) homestead. Various views around Wellington include Lower Hutt, Belmont Road, Wilton's Bush, Breaker Bay, Muritai and Titahi Bay.
