Description: Shows two Maori figures. The man on the left stands in a knee-length tunic holding a patu, wearing moko and a feather standing up from the front of his head. The heair may be in a low pony-tail at the back. The figure at the right, probably a woman, is seated on the ground in a long robe and with an earring. She is smoking a pipe. Description: Central text of praise for Seddon's attendance at Coronation of Edward VII, and for sending Maori forces to fight (in Boer War?). Text inset into stylised Maori carved house, surrounded by various New Zealand native trees. Top shows 4 flags, Maori in traditional and European army dress, a view of Mt Cook, and a picture of a white heron. Below text is a Maori war canoe containing Maori paddlers and European passengers. Description: Shows a mako or shark tooth earring or pendant, a tiki (ornament worn suspended round the neck), a greenstone or pounamu earring, a flute, a woman's moko (lip and chin tattoo), a wooden dagger and a tukituki (type of mere or club). The shark's tooth, small tiki and earring are all original sketches for details in the lithograph 'New Zealand ornaments and decorations', being plate 39 of G. F. Angas' The New Zealanders illustrated (London, McLean, 1847). All three objects are made of South Island pounamu (jade or greenstone). Both the tiki and the shark's tooth were 'drawn from offerings on a wahi tapu, consecrated by the parents to a deceased child, as being the most precious articles they possessed; although exposed amidst the ruins of a deserted pah, so strict is the law of tapu that no one dare touch these valuable relics'. Description: Photographs of the Royal visit in 1927 of the Duke and Duchess of York, taken by an unidentified photographer. None of the photographs have captions. Images include the royal entourage driving or travelling by train through New Zealand countryside in the South Island and the North Island; various ceremonies, welcoming crowds, a large group of nurses lining the steps up to a hospital, various dignitaries, and inspection of troops and police. Two photographs show the Royal camp at Tokaanu, and one shows rows of people seated at tables in the open air. A number of more personal images show the Duke and Duchess, the Duke outside smoking a pipe, the Duke at a racecourse with a trotting horse and sulky, and the Duke and Duchess fishing near Turangi.
