Description: Two photographs of a Maori picnic at Pigeon Bush on the occasion of the settlement of the ownership of Lake Wairarapa. The first shows a large crowd of men, women and children with Seddon on the right in front of a two-storey wooden house. The second is of the crowd under the trees, one with a concertina, and three men holding up eels they had caught. A photograph of Members of Parliament in the debating chamber. The names given are: Symes, O'Maara, A L D Fraser, J Palmer, Hall, Field, Witheford, Wi Pere, Bennet, Kaihu, Duncan, MIlls, Ward, Cairncross, Stevens, Hogg, F M Smith, Carroll, McGowan and Hall-Jones. A photograph of the opening by Seddon of the Ballance Bridge described as "over Mangahau". It was taken by P De Loree & Son a photographer based in Pahiatua which may indicate the approximate location. The crowd in the foreground is mostly of children and the bridge has been decorated with plants. A photograph of Seddon, Mrs Hogg and Alexander Wilson Hogg opening a bridge. It is captioned at the bottom left "Mangainoka 4.3.1896" but this location has not been identified and the name on the reverse is illegible. Two photographs by Winzenberg of Seddon and others at a Liberal rally near Greytown and at a picnic possibly on the same occasion. Description: Lord Ranfurly's party listening to addresses from chiefs at a marae near Mangonui, photographed during the visit of Lord Ranfurly's party to the Far North, March 1904, by Malcolm Ross. James Carroll is seated at the left of centre, in a checked suit. Lord Ranfurly is to his right. Dudley Alexander is second from the right, and Major-General Babington at the extreme right. Inscriptions: Album page - beneath image - Listening to addresse [sic] from the chiefs near Monganui [sic]. The vice-regal party left Te Teko on the morning of 18 March 1904, reaching Auckland (by coach and train) the same evening. They then boarded HMCS Iris and cruised up the east coast. After first landing at the Doubtless Bay cable station, they "proceeded inland from Mangonui to a village where a native meeting was held for the purpose of farewelling Lord Ranfurly". Description: The unveiling of a monument to Hau Moe Werangi and Pita Kena (d 1903) at Pouto, Kaipara District, photographed during the visit of Lord Ranfurly's party to the Far North in March 1904, by Malcolm Ross. James Carroll is standing in the foreground, to the right of centre, with Lord Ranfurly to his right, under the umbrella. Inscriptions: Album page - beneath image - Unveiling the Statue at Pouto The vice-regal party sailed from the Bay of Islands to Whangarei in HMCS Iris. After a day in Whangarei they drove to the Wairoa River, where they took a steamer to Dargaville. From here they took a steam tug to Pouto, near the North Head of the Kaipara Harbour.
