Physical Description: Watercolour, 203 x 292 mm (sight). Provenance: Originally a gift from the artist to Mr and Mrs Dixon. This is probably Mr & Mrs Marmaduke John Dixon who married Mabel Courage in 1897. The artist may have met the couple through Marmaduke Dixon's sister Rosa (later Rosa Spencer Bower), who studied at the Canterbury School of Art in the 1890s. Photographer unidentified. This is probably a publicity photograph of the six electric locomotives supplied by English Electric in 1923. Five were EO class mainland locomotives that collected electricity from overhead wires (and five of these are so constructed). The sixth (seen next to the engine) was a small battery driven E1 class locomotive for maintenance duties.
