Description: Birds eye view of central Auckland - "This view is compiled and drawn as from a point one thousand feet above and one hundred feet to the rear of the Hospital during the year 1885 and part of 1886 by George Treacy Stevens, Auckland, N. Z.". All the streets are named and every building is shown, as well as the wharves and part of the harbour. Grafton Road, the hospital and part of Auckland Domain dominate the foreground, and the view extends beyond St Mary's Bay (West Haven boat harbour) in the north-west, a block beyond Union Street in the west, to the beginning of Karangahape Road in the south-west and to Judges Bay and part of Hobson Bay in the east. Description: Colourful poster has a perpetual calendar in the centre, and is surrounded by advertisements for local businesses of Pukekohe, Papatoetoe, Manurewa, Otahuhu and Papakura. Above the calendar panel is a circular head and shoulders portrait of a clean-shaven Maori chief with facial moko; he is flanked by illustrations of the Scottish thistle and the English rose. Immediately above the calendar is a line of three-leafed clovers, and other illustrations included a boy and girl scout, and two illustrations of a taiaha and long-handled tewhatewha together. Much of their vegetables were supplied from organic market gardens in the Te Horo area. These suppliers now provide stock to Jim Kebble's "Organic Common Sense", a business established in about 1989. Today (1997) "Organic Common Sense" trades from a premises next to "Changs" vegetable market in Chaffers Street opposite the New World Supermarket.
