Description: Photographs of and relating to the Wilson family ex Eketahuna. William M Wilson was born in Glasgow in 1868, coming to New Zealand when 8 years of age. He was apprenticed to John Fitchett, coach builder in Wellington, then with other firms including Rouse & Hurrell. He was employed by Wilfred Woolf in Eketahuna in 1894, and subsequently bought his business, and entered the firm of Kibblewhite and Wilson. See Cyclopedia of New Zealand, Wellington Provincial District, Eketahuna. Description: Photographs taken by Maurice Henry Hayward while on a work relief scheme on the Chatham Islands building a new wharf at Waitangi. Included are views of Waitangi and its principle buildings, the Post Office, the hotels and the radio station. Also depicted is race day, bullock teams, horses hauling wool bales on sledges, sheep waiting at Waitangi Wharf, human bones, Tommy Solomon's funeral, a shipwreck, the countryside, and coastal views. Throughout the album are images of the old wharf at Waitangi, and the new one under construction and finally completed. There is a record of a tramping and hunting trip made by three or four men, one of whom was Hayward, and two interior views of the living quarters for the relief workers. Description: Photographs of Clarke, Graham and Fyfe who first climbed Mount Cook on Christmas Day 1894, with their mountaineering equipment; the sheep dog of James MacKenzie the sheep-stealer; a bullock team pulling wool bales; the Fairlie to Mount Cook coach with John Rutherford driving; the bridge over the river at Lake Tekapo with the hotel next to it; Mount Cook Station, originally built by A Burnett, with a thatched roof and the family outside it; a drawing of the ferry crossing Lake Pukaki and the original accommodation house on the shore; hay-making in front of the Balmoral homestead; the yard of Haldon station surrounded by trees showing the out-buildings and men with dogs; Levels homestead with a man with a hoe and others outside; and a group of men and women picnicking in front of two tents at Governor's Bush in Mount Cook township being the first party conveyed by the Mount Cook Motor Company ca 1880s. The title is New Plymouth from Marsland Hill. To the left of St Mary's, the two-storied building is Marsland Hotel and military Hospital. To the right, across the road, past the troops, the high-gabled single-storey building with a small porch by its door is the Maori Chapel. The two-storied building opposite the chapel is the Military Hospital. Further off to the right, the tallest building is the Wesleyan Chapel.
