Photographed by Karl Gerstenkorn between 1890 and 1895. Seymour's house was built in 1867 by Sellwood. Mangape house was built by the missionaries, Engst and Baucke in about 1859. Description: Colour transparency slides of New Zealand scenes, taken ca mid to late 1950s and 1960s by Peter Vaizey Conley. This set is chiefly of Auckland and Tauranga. Includes: Four slides documenting motor racing at Ardmore, probably New Zealand Grand Prix. Two views of a Ford [Zodiac?] motorcar. Harbour scenes, including ship SS Orsova, a ferry transporting vehicles, Auckland Harbour Bridge, and several views of a sailing ship with four masts. Description: Photographs of the South Island of New Zealand taken by Les Cleveland, 1956 to 1958. Information relating to the content as well as the date taken and the date printed, is on the rear of most prints. Most prints relate to the West Coast Region, but also some images of Nelson, Canterbury, and Otago regions. Identified people are: Kopara Sawmill workers Bill Brown, Owen Jacobs, Morry Pullman, Hans Van Ruyven, Jimmy Birchfield, Doug Macalister, Joe Kavanagh, Neil McLean, Archy Fluerty, saw doctor John Henry Ord, Ted McGhie; licensee of Nelson Creek Hotel D Graham; Dorothy Debenham; Mick Bowie, and chief guide at Mt Cook Hermitage. Unidentified people include a female French tourist and some children. Featured natural environments include Karamea beach scenes, mining and sawmilling sites, and Buller Gorge. Featured town sequences include Reefton and Nelson's Creek houses and businesses, many of which are derelict. Description: Album of photographs collected by Rev G E Mason on a trip around the world in 1885-1886. Comprises photographs of California, Tasmania, Sydney, Ceylon, Egypt and New Zealand. In 1884 the Bishop of Lichfield recieved a request from the bishops of Christchurch and Auckland, New Zealand, to send clergy to conduct missions in their dioceses. To this end he invited Rev G E Mason, and Rev Charles Bodington to do the job. The two clegymen left Liverpool for the United States on the 4th of July 1885, spent a summer in New Zealand, and returned to England in September 1886.
