Description: Aerial view looking south over Auckland Harbour Bridge towards Westhaven, St Mary's Bay and Ponsonby, showing pick-a-back section of bridge being manoeuvred into position on a barge. Photograph taken 29 November 1958 by Whites Aviation. Print from this negative is in MacIver album (PA1-f-160) Between 29 November and 1 December 1958, a 580 ft long span, weighing 1200 tons was floated into its final position on prepared piers. Blustery winds caused the first attempt to be suspended on 30 November. The operation was completed on 1 December. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).
