Description: A series of quick sketches. A two-storied house with another at right-angles (or the same house seen from a different angle) is the most finished. It may show the artist's house at Amuri. There are fifteen drawings of men's faces, including one of a moustached man with upper body including, possibly in a military uniform. There are several cows drawn from several angles and one horse's head. There is also a small drawing of two stick-figure men lining up to fight one another with seated figures behind them. The drawing is undated but the details are likely to have been observed at Duppa's Amuri run in the 1860s. The inside back cover of the sketchbook includes the name and English address of Duppa's nephew, Bryan, who visited Amuri in 1863 Quantity: 1 drawing(s). Description: Photographs of acrobatics performed by members of Northey's School of Physical Culture, both indoors and outdoors, and interior photographs of the school itself. The interiors include the dressing room, the bathroom and equipment such as dumbells, boxing gloves, fencing foils and masks, indian clubs, vaulting horse, mats etc. Men are shown using fixed medicine balls for boxing practice. On the walls of the school are inspirational slogans and pictures of strong men such as Sandow. The other photographs are: J P Northey holding a rifle on the Otago Peninsula; W R Clark outside Otago University; and a group of people at De Beche Hut in Mount Cook National Park including a man called Smith who later died in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. Description: Drawings and caricatures of sports related figures who flourished during the 1940s and 1950s. Includes All Blacks Charlie Oliver, L. Savage, "Has" Catly, and goal-kicker Morrie Doyle, and in other sports boxer Cyril Hurne, American wrestler Dick Raines, and an unnamed female tennis player. Other portraits are of Alex Pratt (manager of Hutt Speedways Ltd), George Welch (secretary of the Wellington Indoor Bowling Association), Mic Zamba (president of the Wellington Softball Association) and boxing trainer Archie Lechie. A number of plain diagrams illustrate boxing and wrestling technique.
