McKnight album

Description: Album of photographs relating to William Lints' Reveille Company, presented to Beeban Annadale McKnight after her marriage to John McKnight. Beeban Annadale MacDonald performed with the company for five years before her marriage in 1923. Many of the photographs are of her at various sites on the tours around New Zealand. Others include one of Gladys Moncrieff and one of Mae Baird, both selling Reveille programmes in Christchurch. William Lints himself appears in a number of the photographs. Description: Views of a trip along the Whanganui River with views of Paranui kainga (listed as Parinui in the album), showing groups of whare, groups of Maori, various activities in the kainga, canoes on the river, and many scenes of waterfalls along the river. These include Taraipokiore (or Tarei-po-Kiore), Otuitu Falls, Ohura Falls, Kakahi Falls. The "Ladder scene", copy of Denton photograph, and other views of the Whanganui River and Ohura River. There is a gap in the album, followed by a separate sequence on Napier. These images include panoramic views of Napier from various locations, church buildings (including exterior and interior views of St John's Cathedral), hotel buildings and other public buildings and memorial statues. Description: Record of a trip from Woodville to Napier and Taupo via the Napier-Taupo Road, February to March 1913. Views include Dannevirke, the upper reaches of the Manawatu River, Waipukurau Lake, Tavistock Hotel, the rail and foot bridge across the Waipawa River between Waipukurau and Waipawa, Hastings Post Office; motor and horse-drawn buses which run between Hastings and Havelock North; house under construction in Henry Street, Hastings (house named Ackworth, owned by Laurence Denton, accountant); views of Cape Kidnappers and the gannet rookery; Ed James and family at their seaside bungalow at Te Awanga; views of Napier and Ahuriri; the Taradale Road embankment over the Tutaekuri River, the Ahuriri Lagoon and mudflats; Marine Parade, Napier showing Norfolk pines, the Municipal Baths and a monument to "six brave men drowned in floods while rescuing people at Clive". None are labelled, but it appears the album is of Arthur James Luke and his wider family; two dogs, a spaniel and a small terrier; his home at 84 Bolton Street, Wellington; family holidays at Napier; views of Lowry Bay; and views of unidentified people linked with tennis. Views in Napier include the Napier Botanical Gardens, various monuments including the monument to the South African War, and buildings damaged by the napier earthquake in 1931. Description: Album of photographs, chiefly taken by Sir Thomas Hunter. Many of the images are of tramping, camping and climbing holidays with friends and family, both in the North Island (Lake Waikaremoana, the far north, and in the Ruapehu and Taupo Districts), and the South Island (Greenstone River, gold sluicing and gold panning at Moonlight, Queenstown and Wanaka). Most scenes state the location, but very few people are identified, and then only by Christian name.
