Description: Michael Wilson (7) oils the chain on his bicycle, while sister Bronwyn (10) makes sure her tyres are fully inflated. Behind are the Aitken brothers, Andrew (10), and Peter (11). The children were neighbours and lived in Maungaraki. Photographed by an Evening Post staff photographer on the 25th of march 1983. The children were preparing to take part the next day in a "Bike for Fun" in Lower Hutt. This was a 17 kilometre ride beginning at Avalon Park organised by the Western Hutt Rotary Club. Description: Photographs of and relating to the Wilson family ex Eketahuna. William M Wilson was born in Glasgow in 1868, coming to New Zealand when 8 years of age. He was apprenticed to John Fitchett, coach builder in Wellington, then with other firms including Rouse & Hurrell. He was employed by Wilfred Woolf in Eketahuna in 1894, and subsequently bought his business, and entered the firm of Kibblewhite and Wilson. See Cyclopedia of New Zealand, Wellington Provincial District, Eketahuna. Includes dwellings; carriages; group outings and portraits; 1 of the Club Hotel of F D Pelling; 3 of the Ryan family at Tawa Flat; 1 of a house at Island Bay, 1 of a thatched whare at Plimmerton, a Ghuznee St boarding house; 2 relating to the Burnett family; 2 scenes in Manakau; 1 of D A Greenlees store; 2 of Rarotanga; 2 relating to the business of Lyon & Blair, steam printers and lithographers; 1 of a group outside a house in Eastbourne; 3 relating to the Manson family; 1 of a military camp in New Zealand in preparation for the South African War. Description: Album of tramps, camps, and other boy scouting activities, chiefly photographed by Gerald Rainsford Craddock, who was an active scout member and later scout master during the 1930s at Otorohanga. Maori legends and hand-drawn maps accompany the photographs, bringing New Zealand geography and history alive to the young scouts. Outings include following Te Kooti's trail, searching for caves where moa bones have been found, and climbing to various trig stations in the Waikato area. Description: Album of photographs, chiefly showing scenes in Western Australia, particularly around Coolgardie and Norseman. Most of the identified views were taken by Hemus & Hall (a photographic firm in Bayley Street, Coolgardie between 1895 and 1906). A number of views show the use of camels and camel trains in Western Australia, with one showing the first steam train entering Coolgardie on 23rd March 1896. Many of the images are unidentified, but two are shown as being in New Zealand. One shows the Thames Pharmacy, owned by George Denby; and the other is a bush scene at Waikawau. There was a motor gymkhana and floral fete, and a meeting of the Caledonian Society. The motor gymkhana and floral fete took place at Tahuna Park on Saturday 28 March 1914, and included competitions of motor cars, side cars, motor cycles - competitions for best decorated cars and bicycles, a car balancing competition (on a see-saw), musical chairs for cars and side-cars, rescue races and steering competitions, banana catching competition for bicycles, flower-catching competition for motor-cycles. Description: Album appears to have been owned by J Alexander as it came into the possession of his son F R Alexander. Photographs taken by A G Jackson (and possibly also by his companions on the trip - H.A.F Jackson and J Alexander) in 1887 on a penny-farthing cycle trip from Christchurch to the West Coast, have been added to an existing album of commercial photographs of yachting on The Solent, England.
