Sharp album 1

Date: [Circa 1897 to 1898]

By: Spackman, Herbert, 1864-1949

Reference: PA1-o-465

Description: Photographs of the Wellington region, and family snapshots. Many of the images give information about camera speed and light, and time of day taken. Not all the people are identified, with one family dominating the portraits, members of the Spackman family, living in Rintoul Street, Newtown in the 1890s. Herbert Spackman is shown with his wife (Daisy Spackman), and daughter (Sylvia?), and can also be seen at work in the New Zealand Government Life Insurance offices. There is one group portrait of staff members of the office. Another link to the family is seen in photographs of St Thomas' Church in Newtown, both exterior views while undergoing additions, and interior views; and one image of choir members at St Thomas'. There are also interior and exterior views of St Paul's Pro-Cathedral (now known as Old St Paul's) Other images include views of Wellington bays, interior and exterior views of Horace William Lloyd's premises (watchmaker, jeweller and optician) in Lambton Quay, the Newtown tennis court opening, the home of Josephus Hargreaves Richardson (chief commissioner of the Government Life Insurance), interior views of a house with a baby lying asleep in a cot, and Marshall's houses in Worser Bay, alongside J. Marshall's Pilot Store (General Store & Refreshment Rooms).
